Anybody here fish in the Hampton Roads area? Looking for a good family place i can take my 3 kids with me, ages 1 through 8. The pier on the navy base is getting old.

I think I would check with any local sporting good stores. Not the big box, but maybe the mom and pop type.
There is a great fishing store called Gregs Bait in Portsmouth I have been too. I have just never asked while there to be honest. I should do that soon next time im in need of supplies. I know some places but was hoping to get something not quite as crowded. I have heard about a few catfish holes but nobody seems to know exactly where they are.
There used to be (40 years ago) a fishing pier near the base of the Newport News side of the James River Bridge. Lot's of people there blue crabbing too. Young kids can crab a lot better than fish since all you need to do is toss a chicken neck into the water and wait.
In 2020 congress finally forced the VA to provide Agent Orange coverage to Blue Water Navy Vietnam veterans. RIP shipmates that never received proper care.
my son lives in west point and stationed at new port news, we have fished around your area quite a bit. you didn't mention if you had a boat or not. we fished from fort lee last time we were there, caught a bunch with hand lines. under the new port news bridge for crabs. anywhere near the bay bridge tunnel seems good for croaker and striper. let me ask my son what is biting and where and I'll get back with you. xp

The fishing pier at Gloucester Point is free, and no fishing license is required (an anonymous benefactor buys the license for everyone who uses the pier every year).
I will be checking gluocester point sometime in the future but dagnabbit.... what is everyone? what in the world is everyone doing? I'm guessing enjoying the weather far from hampton roads.... ok no big deal i suppose... no crabs right now at pier on the naval base in late june..... hopefully later this month or next month is some crabs.... and oh yeah... i wanna check out gloucester point depending on my wifes mood...

The best way to fish Hampton Roads is by boat. There's not many fishing piers around that are real fish producers, like on the Outer Banks. Good luck.
