    Tighter fitting 44 check

I am currently using hornady 44 gas checks for several of my 44 magnum molds. The checks seem to fit loose on all of the gas check shanks. After sizing I am still able to pull them off with a little effort. Anyone know of a tighter fitting check I can try next time. thanks

It's not likey to be the gas check. It's probably the size of the gas check shank on the mold.

Well I kind of figured that just wondered if there was a solution. These molds are from accurate, and lee. I have no trouble with any of my other gas check molds.

Charles Darnall and I have come up with a fix for those small gas check shanks. My aluminum .440 checks will crimp hard on the Ranch Dog Lee molds and size to .432. Send me a private PM with shipping info and I will send some free samples. James

Gator checks fit a little tighter than the Hornadys in my experience.

You might try casting your bullets a little cooler, if you are seeing frosting this is a sure sign you are casting too hot. Too hot will cause more shrinkage. Touch your sprue plate to a wet sponge every so often, this will help make shank larger. Too cool will cause rounded bases.

Or you can cast with strait linotype alloy. Lino shrinks very little.

I use nothing but Gator checks now since I found out that they fit tight on all my revolver calibers, 357, 41, 44, and 458, 308 rifle. I sold both my check makers cause they all fit loose. Nothing but Gator checks for me.
