    HELP Paper Patching Sharps Rifles!

Howdy Gents, I have 3 Sharps rifles and I wish to shoot the paper patch bullets. I would like to learn how to get started and the pro's & con's of doing this type or reloading for my rifles.

Sharps 45/120 is for hunting big game.

John Bodine 45/90 is for target shooting

Sharps 45/70 is also for target shooting (wife's rifle)

    Best Regards,

    Thanks Chalkta

There are several very good books out there on paper Patching and shooting paper patching bullets. Loading and shooting the Paper Patched bullet a beginners guide by Wright is very good to get started with. Do you want to load smokeless or black powder? patch to bore dia or groove dia? Wright covers all of these issues and the how to load work up ( with Black Powder) and what to look for as you go along.

also another good book to begin with would be Mathews book "THE PAPER JACKET". his also goes into pretty good detail on the ins and outs of paper patching.

I figured to go smokeless because getting black-powder around my area is not easy to do!

Remember, Powder Inc. is located in Clarksville, Arkansas. Best place in the USA to get black powder.

Greetings! Welcome to the club! I started paper patching just last year and find it fascinating. There are several books available that discuss this. The one I have is '...The Paper Jacket...' by Paul Williams. His favorite caliber is the 45-70, and he discusses this in detail. There is a difference in PP'ing pure lead and lead alloys, and BP and smokeless. He discusses this in his book, as well. I got it off the net for around $20.00. Also, there are the stickies here on the site. Just hit 'forum' button at top of page, and scrool down, eventually you will see BP paper patching, and Smokeless paper patching. Read, read, read. Once you are thoroughly confused, feel free to ask questions! It a fascinating subject. Again, WELCOME! mikey
