Does it work well in the 45-70?

Went to the Cedar Rapids gun show today just to look around. I did buy a pound of IMR4198 from Bobs shooting supply, it was 22.15 plus tax = 23.70 out the door. Powder prices are up.

I went to the gun show also and didn't see any powder.

The next time there is a gun show we ought to get the Iowa guys together.

I have purchased from Bobs at a CB gunshow in the past. Always had decent prices on powder.

Bought three pounds of A1680 last week. Have some WC872 on order with Bartlett. I wonder do the speculators think that they will turn over what they're buying up but don't plan on using? I would buy brass or lead sight unseen but powder and primers are just too perishable to not buy it from a reputable dealer. Personally, I hope the speculators get "burned" (financially, NOT literally)...

Perishable? I'm shooting primers from the early seventies and powder that I think is from the fifties. They were stored properly, which is the key, and they all go bang. And there is no way I'm buying brass sight unseen. I got burnt on this before. Every cartridge had case head separation. And lead is always a big gamble if not in original form. They would have to store the powder and primers very poorly for them not to survive decades.

Fortunately, there seems to be no shortage of primers. Heck, I've been buying up cases of Berdan (Tula) for both 7.62 Nato and 7.62 Russian. Grafs used to carry Tula primers in 50BMG. I bought one case of 1250 when they did have some. Wish I had picked up more. Sigh...

Bob has been selling powder & primers at the shows for a long time. He is a good guy and keeps his prices fair. He used to buy his powder-primers, and supplies from Crow shooters supply in Brooklyn, Iowa. A couple years ago Brownells bought out Crow. Bob still gets his powder from the same building in Brooklyn but Brownells does business differently than Crow used to. Next gun show in Cedar Rapids is May 30-31 June 1.

Bought 2 lbs of varget, 2 lbs of H4895, and 2 lbs of bullseye this week. Haven't ever used varget yet. Can't wait to try it. Felt like I was lucky to find this.

At the gun show last weekend, I picked up a pound of 748 and a pound of HS-6. There were plenty of rifle powders at the slow end, IMR 4350, 4320, H-4831, and others of that ilk, but nothing faster than Leverevolution. The only pistol powders were H-110 and WW-296, and my lone can of HS-6. Powder was 29.99 a pound in singles, 4 pounders were 109.99. Primers were readily available at 27-31 dollars a thousand. I bought 5,000 WSP for 151.88, tax included. Again excluding my lone can of HS-6, there were no shotgun powders on the shelf. Looks like the drought is starting to ease up--unless you're a pistol or shotgun shooter.
