that's not too bad I paid @26 airc for a pound of longshot the other day. [it was 179 in the jug]

the hodgdons and IMR seem to be a bit up there for stuff that's considered a rifle type powder 28-29 bucks. [an 8 pound jug is in the 190-200 area]
I have seen some of the alliant stuff down in the 21-22 dollar area. [shot shell powders]
the one powder I haven't seen yet is 2400.

I am building a 6.5 Creedmoor and the recommended powder is H4350. I went into my LGS and low and behold they had several pounds and I walked out the door with 2 lbs. I was impressed with the selection of 6.5 stuff. Several selections of ammo and bullets, but no brass. I have 100 new 22-250 cases that i can fire form, and I previously purchase 80 rounds of Hornady 140 gr. A-Max loaded ammo (All they had left). It was almost as economical as buying components, So I should be set to get a load worked up. I am anxious to try some "Boolits" in said rifle in the future.

Well I ended up picking up 2-imr4227, 2-H110 and 1-Universal for $130 or $26.00/ lb average in my hands. Now I just need 454 cases and the new NOE 454-276 SWC mould and I'll be set.

I got a chance to shoot the cfe-223 powder in the 250 AI today.

it actually shoots pretty good.
I was able to make several accurate groups on 1" dots at 50 yds without any sort of drama, then the dot either disappeared from the holes or fell off.

the one thing I did notice when the wife was shooting was that the rifle would give off a little poof of black smoke.
the load was with the Remington 86gr bullet and I'm not sure it's supposed to be pushed that fast,
but the holes in the paper looked nice and round [with no splatters], so I'm going with it for now.

I will try some at 100 yds when I can feel my fingers again.
I also was shooting a very dirty barrel.
so we will see if it was the powder or if it was actually cleaning stuff out of the barrel.
but the accuracy is good enough that I don't much care.

Run, in my experience those Rem. bullets are pretty "soft," and ought to expand dramatically in your .250. I doubt there's any danger in their disintegrating in flight, but I could be wrong. Most I've shot that have done that have started to "smoke" at about 30 yds. or so, and then disappeared in a blue streak somewhere near or before they reached the 100 yd. target. Funny stuff to watch the first time you see it. I was shooting them in a little .256 Win. Mag. 10" Contender, and they did fine in that caliber. I liked them at the velocities I could get in that caliber and barrel length. It's one of the few .25 cal. bullets that would give me reliable and quick expansion at the velocities I could get in that caliber, and I wasn't looking for and didn't need a really long range bullet, so the blunt form didn't matter, and likely was an asset at the time. It ought to really be deadly from your .250!

I'm hoping some others will chime in with their data too.
I just got a 243 and would like to see if they find anything out on the heavier bullets.
if not I guess i'll work with it and some 58gr V-maxes.
I'm trying H-414 with them now but doubt I need 3400 + fps.

those little 86 gr bullets shoot super nice in my 257 Bob which has a rounded shoulder very similar to the one the weatherby cartridges use.
I poke them along at 2450 fps out of that rifle and it's more accurate than it has any business being.
it's a re-lined Arisaka with a little 2x7 scope on it and the usual bad trigger slightly slicked up.

wish I would have bought another couple of boxes of them bullets back when they were on close-out from midway.

I went back, the other day, helped some more, and was given: 8k more primers, 100 45 ball rounds, 2 ammo cans and about 4k cases of new brass.
I tried to refuse, but you know where that gets you.

My kids and I had fun burning about 3lbs of powder, due to age.
I think I'm passed my comfort level, though.
I now have almost 60 lbs of powder and 80k primers. Until I can get rid of some, I've scattered it about as to not have a giant stockpile.

Got a pound of 2400. They had a couple more but only got one. Was tempted to get the 8# of H110 but not really short on powder for full bore 44 mag, so the 1# 2400 was enough. Decided to leave the rest for the next guy

2lbs of Unique and 2lbs of 2400 all at $22/lb. Lots of it at the gunshow. Unique was $145/8lb keg.
