Paw prints

So I see prints and pull over with camera. What animal, if you had to guess?

I cannot tell from the size. Coyotes and fox run in a line, dogs are offset. The thrown up snow to me suggest a trot or run not walking, not much of a claw print to tell. Bigger than a silver $ coyote, smaller is a fox.

Coyotes step in their own front track with their rear feet as shown when just walking. Not only that but two coyotes walking in line will have the rear coyote walking in the track of the lead coyote. Not only that but they will use the same track if visible later when walking the same trail. Its a protective instinct but can be used against them for trapping. When making a trail set the trap placement is a foot print.

Seriously though, they look canine and I would say 'yote.

I sure would have liked to been there when it troted by and sent a Silver boolit it's way!

Taking a second look I would say a pair of coyotes. This is the time of year they pair for mating.
