Did you design that Accurate Mold?

Hey fellers. Accurate Molds rocks. We all know that. He's not much for talking on the phone, but he'll help you design a mold for free and cut it and send you a superbly made piece of down home American made goodness, and he'll do it so fast it makes the group buy guys cuss a blue streak.
Once your mold is in your hot little hands, he puts the design up in his catalogue for all to see, admire, and possibly purchase.

I was just scrolling through, dreaming of the next project I'm going to have him do for me, and as i looked at the strange, the interesting, and the epic mold designs he offers, I found myself wishing I knew which ones were designed or modified by which of our members, and what purpose they had in mind when they had him change/create it?
I figured I would just make a post and ask, because it would be good for Tom, and it would be good for us!

    SO!

    Which one is yours?
Why did you design/modify it, for which gun/purpose?
    How well did it work?
What would you do different if you could?
Post the link to your boolit and let us know!
The purpose behind this is to learn about the designs in Tom's catalog, so even if you had nothing to do with it, if you know what it's intended purpose was go ahead and tell us so that everybody can know.

Here's a legend of the designers and their comments:
(I will organize as the list grows.)

This is one that Tom helped me design:
    http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_...=36-215M-D.png
It was designed to be a dual use mold between my 358Malcolm wildcat, and my first 358 Winchester.
At the last minute, I got dazzled by one of his catalog designs and ordered that one instead (36-210A) so I never got a chance to try it, but Tom still put it in his catalog.

What do you say fellers? Step right up and take credit for that godawful gob of solidified galena!

I guess you are the only one to admit they designed one...

Nice boolit outpost! Why did you do it just that way? How does it shoot?

I've thought about designing one, but can usually find a suitable mold in Tom's catalogue. Maybe I'll make one, just 'cause I can.

Wanted maximum crush for low velocity game load, which would also feed in a .45 Colt Cowboy rifle, but act on game like a wadcutter. It shoots very well at short ranges within 25 yards, my primary use for it. No problem shooting a ragged hole with 4.5 grains of Bullseye from my Ruger Blackhawk with .45 ACP cylinder or 7 grs. of Bullseye in .45 Colt brass, but meplat is too large to carry up at longer ranges. At 50 yards dispersion is nonlinear, groups open to over 6" and at 100 yards in a rifle, even when loaded hot with a compressed caseful of #2400 at 1300 fps you can do better with a 5 iron hitting driving range pickup balls...

http://www.accuratemolds.com/img/bul.../31-180R-D.png I have a Remington 700 30-06 and a few model 700 308's which all share a similar long throat. Tom helped me design the 31-180R to fit and fill the throats of my rifles. It fits my 308's with the base of the gas check even with the bottom of the case neck and the nose/front driving band touching the throats in my rifles. It fits the '06 well also with the gas check up in the case neck a little of course. I've only had opportunity to do limited testing with this bullet so far but it appears to be working quite well.

I saw that one on the site. That's one I was looking at and wondering why only one lube groove? Very unique design!

It actually was based on another of Tom's molds which only had the single lube groove then modified for my rifles. Two of the goals in addition to fit were to keep the lube groove/grooves in the neck of the fairly short necked 308 case and to maximize bearing surface. The long throats of my rifles seem to be a blessing in the maximum bearing surface department and I think will prove to be an advantage in the bullet/bore alignment department as well.

Here is my list that I had him design for me.

    1) 31-165A

    2) 31-205B

    3) 31-215B

    4) 45-295B

#1 was for a 308 Win. that I had. This was my first mold I worked with Tom for me. It works very well! Ask Run5run. Thats who I sold it to. I think he has it going 2400 fps now. I sold the barrel that this was made for that was why I got rid of it.

#2 was made for a M39 Finn that had a very worn throat. This shot really great in it. I could hold 2 MOA with it at 100 yds. Run also bought this one.

#3 was made for a slightly used Original 91/30 Sniper rifle. It works very well in that one and 2 other Mosins and a M1917 303 Brit.

#4 I designed but never ordered. It was going to made for a 45 Colt Handi Rifle.

    Y'all gettin the idea?
This is going to be a huge help in finding the right mold for your application.
All I ask is that you give an honest opinion of how it worked. The mold that I bought (36-210A) didn't work very well in any rifle I tried it in. but I didn't design it, I just bought it.
I'm hoping this thread will be a kind of buyers/designers guide.
    Keep it up fellers!

Did two with Tom so far. Used TMT cast bullet design to draw/figure them up.

As big a meplat as I could get to still feed in a levergun, but they definitely hit like a freight train. They work no doubt and the 43-280H also does double duty in my Redhawk/Marlin 1894. .44Rem Mag
My 1895CB . 45-70GOVT handles the 46-400C well, did do a little carrier work, but very solid in function.

    Wouldn't change a thing.

Great thread goodsteel. Nice to see why others do what they did too.

I can lay claim to the design of one mold on that site...

    31-235B

I wanted one for 300BLK that went full length of the magazine. Found a good start in his catalog, but I also prefer the more graceful line of a longer curve on the ogive. So I stretched and modified an existing design and came up with that one. Kinda flattering that others have taken my shape from the front driving band forward and modified the back end to make it their own. Most obvious design change was making a PB instead of my GC design. I wanted the GC so I can have the option of higher speed from an '06....

31-165C for powder coating in 308W. 165A works great in the AR carbine (yes, 2400+, still testing in the 24" upper) & Marlin 30/30, haven't gotten this 1 yet to test. GC design, smaller nose, LG is for collecting lead from the long bore ride section. Wider rear band for sans GC in the 30/30 (1400+ so far with the A version). He did a 125 BB 9mm for PC, with a shallow LG but don't think he cat'd it. Works great, bout 1" @ 7 in XDs.

I had Tom clone the Lyman 338320, it's listed as 34-201L-----does what I expected it to do in my Winchester 338 Magnum M-70 Classic. Was looking for a reduced velocity load that wouldn't pound the shooter, but still adequate for hunting whitetails. Just need to harvest a deer with it one of these days. I wanted brass and didn't want to wait in excess of one year.

    Me and Tom Designed 36-160Q

So far i have shot my best 25 yard group using it (top right target in groups fired). I was compairing soft 16/1 vs. hard linotype alloy using Tin Star powder, LBT Soft Blue lube and CCI standard small pistol primers.

In theory a nose heavy bullet will stabilize better at longer ranges. Which is one of the reasons for no crimp groove.

    Gun: S&W 686 6" barrel 357 Magnum with 2 power scope

Good stuff fellers! Keep em coming!
Feel free to say as much as you want about what gun they were designed for, or what special conditions you were trying to overcome.
Precision in the wrong place is only a placebo.
