    AG,

Thanks for posting, looks like mine was a re-issue, cause stock & tag under the buttplate are '44, but ser# indicates '35.

    That it is Alaskanguy.

My son's K-31 was made in 1942 and mine in 1945.

Wouldnt it be cool if there was a way to look up some of these old farts to let them know that their old buddy Rifles are still alive and in the states???

    You can if you persever.
The Swiss rifles site had some aids and ideas many years ago.
Assitance in deciphering the various components, or terms, of the writing on the tag.
Some even contacted the original owner, and well, there was a lot of emotion some times.
Just remember, in Switzerland you will have French, German and etc speaking cantons.
Main points were name, personal number(ie like SSN),town or canton name, military position or assignment and sometime street address.
All in all a very enjoyable side trip for you to take.
There was even a Swiss yellow pages type look-up facility.
On the swissrifles.com site look for a user Gusian and lurk and ask.

According to municipal records, the "original owner" of my '37-vintage K-31 appears to have passed away in 1978. A buddy's wife, who was born in Germany not far from the Swiss border, helped with the translation 'cause my high-school German is awfully rusty, even though I did work, once upon a time, for a German manufacturer of heavy construction equipment.

Mine is a K-11, so not on the list, but I found it on another site. 1931.

I was not aware of the owner information under the butt stock, so I had to take a look. Mine has a tag which we took a picture of. I can't make much of it due to the handwriting. I can tell the man's name was Paul something and born in 1914, but can't make out the rest. I have a coworker who speaks several languages including French and German and may be able to make more of it than I can. I'm glad you guys mentioned that. I would have never known.

1955 without a tag. I’ve owned two but I sold the first one which had a tag.

Swisswaffen.com is a swiss website that has a serial number database for all swiss made military arms from the Vitali through to modern issue stuff. It's a great resource to look up dates of manufacture.
