s&w 586 good buy?

I'm not sure if this is the correct placement for this question, but it sees the highest traffic and figured I'd start here.

I am posting this with the full faith and credit of the CB community that if this is a good buy, nobody will steal the deal from me.

I am looking at possible purchasing this smith & wesson 586 from gunbroker. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=389384405

He/she says it's new, and while it does look like the bluing is dark and good, does anybody else notice the possible freckling on the cylinder and spots on the side plate? I think the spots are just dust stuck in the lube used to wipe it down, but the freckling on the cylinder has me worried.

I've emailed the seller about this, but am currently waiting a response. Any thoughts?

Unless I'm reading it wrong I think the bid price and buy it now price are the same. Most 586's are going for about $100 more so I think it's a fair price, assuming it's not rusted. Thanks for the reply.

Hmmm, I'll have to ask about that if he responds back. I'd hate to be out the shipping costs, but it's better than a rust bucket.

I think you will find the freckling is the pattern left by the foam case on the wipe down oil.

I've got a 586 and love it. That being said, it had to go back to Smith for light primer strikes. They also polished out a few scratches and reblued it. In my area that's about the going price for a LNIB 586. It's not a great deal of that's why your buying. But you'll like it as soon as you start shooting.

The left side of the bbl rib looks suspicious to me. The pattern on the cylinder does look like it is from foam or the lining from a pistol rug.

I got burned on a M-15 a few years ago, I failed to ask questions and I assumed it was camera flash on the bbl. About 60% blue overall.

FWIW I recently bought a new 586 6" from my LGS (after a 7 month wait) for $650. Absolutely love it!

My, how things change. I saw my 586 at a gun show for $479, which seemed pretty good, but I
kinda wanted a 4" bbl, so passed it by. At the other end of the gun show, I saw the identical gun
with a different dealer for $779. A quick turnaround and bought the $479 one. Turns out to have
been a SUPER price. And the gun is super accurate, overall a wonderful gun.

You will like it.
