ID:	93895 I going to be trying these out today. I have been messing around with the idea of using homemade Black powder in some smokeless cartridges continuously for the past 3 years with SOME success nothing to write home about after 2 shots though.
I never tried it in a 7.92X57 mm Mauser so I decided to see if the old Mauser cartridge will fair any better. This should be fun and interesting!

Accuracy good throughout the entire firing session 20 rounds. I did not take any targets with me so I do not have pictures of the proof of accuracy sorry. But at 50 yards I was hitting a decent size rock continuously. Got a couple of funny looks from guys shooting Ar15s. I think the cloud of smoke, flame and confetti had something to do with it lol I think I found a winner I'm going to continue to work with the 7.92X57 black powder combo more. I'm going to have to sand bag it and put it on paper to see what I got it looks like it's worth pursuing.

I would really like to see your results on paper, Will you be able to run some through a chronograph?
Congratulations on your work so far.

Never even thought of shooting BP in any of my old guns. Are you using commercial, or your own make? That would be neat!

Sorry pworley1 I still do not own chronograph. But 1300 to maybe mabey! 1500 fps is my guess. But my plan when I have time is to set up a targets at 25, 50, & 100 yards shoot 5 rounds of each and if accuracy is acceptable I'm going to attempt to see how far I can stretch it. I had my sights set for 500 meters to get it on target at 50 so we shall see.

Mikeym1a yes I make my own gunpowder and my own priming compound to repack used primers. It took some time to learn but now everything that I make works 99 % of the time. The 20 rounds I made 100 percent ignition no duds or hang fires. 17 all chambered easily 3 we're just a little stiff no problem though I'm talking just a little resistance I didn't have to whack the bolt shut. One was because the extractor did not grab the case rim had to pop over it when the bolt was closed.

I tried this in my 30-30 chambered Rem 788 some. It actually worked really well with a lightly duplexed load with a little (.3cc) AA5744 under the powder. Doing that I can fire 50 rounds without foul-out and holds about 2 MOA. A card wad and lubed felt wad under the boolit helps too. It is kind of fun playing with guns like this and black powder!

Thanks for the info. Been threatening to use patched and black in the 1888 and haven't gotten my tuit rounded up.

Dang tuit's anyway! ive had to search weeks on end for one and then they cover you up ... so ... the next step is triage to see which needs attention first. almost always wind up doing some other 'tuit' and the original is usually down the list but ... hang in brother ... it will allow you to catch up someday.

I'm sneaking up on it. Picked up a Lyman 316 diameter round nose plain base mold to use.

I think you are going to have fun with this. I did! Some time Im going to go forward with my longer range tests.
But dont think I will be useing my homemade powder any more, It just takes to long for me to make and I can now afford to buy BP.

Say, what in the world did you do for something like a grease cookie? I've been trying to figure on how the powder and then some lube would work with the shoulder and shorty neck.

Fill the case to the point where shoulder starts with black powder, place a small peace of wax paper on top of the powder MAKE SURE it is big enough that when you apply pressure to the lube it will make a perfect seal on the case wall, use enough lube to fill JUST past the start of the neck, another smaller peace of wax paper than seat the PP Boolit to where the base is just at the bottom of the neck.
A small wooden dowel the same diameter of your case neck makes it easyer by the way.
