See this thread but can't tell if it's still open or not.

Would like one if it is. Thinking the T/L grooves would be best. Too deep grooves and boolit would probably collapse?

I started this thread in hopes of recreating the buffalo design. As you can see in the string of comments that the designed morfted into the design shown in the photograph above. I noticed that the mold maker's title block states he is banned from the site. So I doubt that the molds are obtainable through this forum. I purchased a pair of these molds and did some testing with my Crockett with mixed results. I haven't heard alot from the other purchasers as to their results. If you are interested in trying some of these, then PM me with an address and I can see about sending a few to play with. I am on the road quite often so done expect then to ship out tomorrow but I'll get to them as I can.

Yep you are not getting molds from ACE anymore.

What I suggest you do is go over to the NOE forum and start a post to try and get interest in getting a mold cut like the original design. Hopefully someone could supply Al with a couple bullets from the original mold to measure off of so a drawing could be made.

Long story short. Took a lot of orders and didn't deliver a lot of the stuff in a timely fashion. I really like the molds I got from him and never had a problem but I was on the earlier buys. It is a shame it went down the way it did. It seemed like he got more orders than he could handle.

The thought of a poundable swage sounds reasonable. I used to run 440 and 457" round balls thru a Lee boolit size to make a kind of elongated ball for my .444 Marlin and it was easy to do on my press without straining anything. I imagine it would be be pretty easy if someone knows how to make the tool. I would be in for one in .45.

I just think that the bottom land ought to be fairly wide for strength. I made some shortened maxi-balls but the middle driving band came out a little narrow as that is the new base band now. Results were less than satisfactory.

So tumble lube grooves might work as long as the base was left wide like on a maxi-ball .. Mr. Turner Kirkland's boolit he designed had a bit of a hollow base even, according to the pic in the catalog from back in the day when they sold those. I don't know how good they shot but the "ballette" looks alot like it did.
