Agreed, they are very special rifles. Yours looks like a good one and is interesting because it has one of the early minor stock change transitions. About the first year (ca 1951-2) of the stock comb "hump" in the sporter models for better eye alignment with a scope.

Anyone interested in these should really consider getting Rule's book- The Rifleman's Rifle.

For comparison, here's the butt stock of a 1950 standard sporter Win 70.

They must have added the Monte Carlo right after '50 as indicated. I wish they had added a check piece but I still love it. Ditto on Rule's book. They are quite expensive if you get the hard bound variety.

Here's my Pre-War Model 70 in 270 Winchester. Wonderful rifles they are and always a good choice. You did well with that deal.

My 52 model 70 in 30-06 makes the most terrific vibration throughout the stock when the bolt is closed. It is my go-to gun when I shoot for distance and also when I take a nice long S**t. A Guns and Ammo book works, but there is nothing like holding the real thing in those situations.++I have a wife and two small kits--sometimes 15 minutes in the bathroom with a gun restores a bit of sanity to an insane world.

Yes. And anything to add about pre-64 M70s?

This thread is just a continuation of the OP's question about the asking price of a pre-64 M70 he located. In another parallel thread, he (the OP of this thread also), ended up buying (almost stealing ) the rifle.
