Lee 12 cavity 0.490 RB mold

    Hi guys,

Just saw a 12 cav RB Mold 0.490 in Lee's website.

Anybody use this mold? Can this be used for 20 ga as slug?

    Thanks for any reply....

I have never tried that mold but it is for patch/ball on a 50 cal muzzleloader. The most common RB load for a 20ga uses a .575 or so diameter ball in a shotcup. There are several threads on this forum showing how to load a Lee .575 RB in a shotshell.

0.490" ball size cast really hard and using a brown paper roll can be used to make tri-ball loads for the 20ga. There is no suitable one piece plastic wad for making tri-ball loads in the 20ga. unlike the 12ga. (Precision Reloading house brand name orange colored steel shot wads)

Thus you must make your own, brown paper wet (glued) roll with three slits almost all the way down on top of a stack of hard nitro cards does work and work well. That is what I'm using, and in that exact ball size for 20ga. tri-ball loads. Time consuming to roll your own wads that way but for only a hundred or so loads a year in that configuration for the 20ga. its completely do-able.

Happy new Year for all. Turbo could one use Teflon thin pieces instead of rolling brown paper wads. On top of the gas seal for 20g. roll the Teflon, then stack the 3 .490 RB and then Buffer material to top then round close with cork. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
