Need load data for Lee 45/70 500gr FNGC

I got a few boolits cast from a few weeks ago. I'm having a hard time finding data for these in 45/70. Only powders I have are IMR4198 and Varget. Going to get R7 soon so that is a possibility.

Will be using a Marlin Guide Gun and can use data up to 43,500 cup. Some Ruger loads can be used in my gun but not all. I'm going to load a dummy and see if I can get one to feed at 2.55".

    Thanks.

Most folks that want to shoot a 500 gr. boolit out of their Marlins in 45/70 choose a different configuration than the lee 500 gr FNGC so that the ctg. over all length allows it to cycle and chamber in the action of the lever gun.
You may find that by seating it to a 2.55 inch C.O.L. that it may cycle and may chamber in your gun but I would believe you may have issues with it not chambering with out a slight crimping of the brass ..whether the slight
crimp contacts the boolit s' nose or not it should help.
As you no doubt know, that by seating it deeper into the case, pressures will be somewhat higher so any load data for this boolit will have to be started lower than any published data.

This load data is from the Lyman #45 from 1970 and is for a** 552** grain Lyman #462560 (#2 alloy) and was fired in an 1886 winchester 45/70 and may be of benefit in your load work up.

    Unique 12.0 gr. 1012 fps max..14.0 gr 1100 fps
    2400 20.0 gr. 1096 max..26.0 gr 1400
    Imr4198 26.0 gr 1162 max..32.0 gr 1386
    Imr4227 23.0 gr 1160 max..28.0 gr. 1335
    Imr3031 34.0 gr 1273 max..39.0 gr 1442...compressed charge !

I have had good success with the Lee 500 gc in my single shot 45/70s and 24.0 gr 2400 ..however they are seated out much longer than what you need in your Marlin.

    best of luck......

Thanks. I got a dozen or so boolits cast and lubed. Wanted to run some of these. If I have to load singly just to shoot them I'll be ok with it.

I had a Lee 405gr FN but sold it. Getting an RCBS 405gr, possibly 500gr. The Lee was cheap. If this one won't shoot, I'll get rid of it too. I might just sell this with the boolits and use the money towards a RCBS 405gr FN.

    Thanks for the info.
