    Ruger Hawkeye Tactical Rifle

Just want to know if anyone here has one of these rifles. How accurate is it? It has a Hogue over mold rubber stock. I have seen mixed reviews on the stocks. Some say the action can move and cause accuracy problems.I am interested in buying one in 223 and want opinions.

    Thanks

    WOW!

Just looked it up and got STICKER SHOCK! ! !

I would recommend you look at the Savage or the Remington.

Let us know how you like. I can't comment on the accuracy of this gun, but I can say that Hogue overmolded stocks suck, and rank up there with Hornady One Shot in the category of "Terrible lies perpetrated on the shooting community."

What will be the use of the rifle? Targets, varmints, Coyotes?

Also, I don't see what makes that an $899.00 rifle. I just don't see it.

The Hogue stock will keep me from buying the gun, unless I hear otherwise. Crows and Coyotes would be it's use ,along long range targets.

I wouldn't let the Hogue stock dissuade me, but just make sure that there are aftermarket stocks available in case you don't like it. To be honest, the Hogue stocked guns I had and hated were all larger calibers than the .223.

Now, if it will hold 5 shots into an inch or less, then I would leave the Hogue stock alone, as that accuracy is more than acceptable for plinking and coyote/varmint within 300 yds or so. Maybe farther depending.

A 1 inch to half inch rifle from the box is pretty common these days. You have to spend a bazillion dollars to get a rifle that shoots better than the 1/2 or 3/4 MOA you get from stock rifles these days.

To summarize: If you like the gun, get it. The stock is replaceable if you don't like it. Give a look see to MVP as well.

I would like the gun to shoot 1/2 to 3/4 MOA for three shots.Five shots under an inch.

Feed it good ammo and it will probably happen. What's the twist?

While this website didn't review your particular rifle you are asking about it has other great reviews and a similar gun from Ruger. http://www.snipercentral.com/rifles.htm

I've had 2 Houge stocks and it WOULD be a deal breaker for me. One was a Remington 700 Tactical .223 that wouldn't shoot under 2". I also put a Houge stock on a bull barrel 10/22 and had accuracy go right out the window. On the 10/22 I went back to modified factory wood stock and it went right back to shooting bug hole groups. The rubber stocks are just too limp.

Old thread, but I would like to see a Ruger .256 rifle.
I don't know if this will get their attention, but at one time they made one in a lever action that flopped.
I think it would be competitive with the other smaller cartridges in vogue at the present time.
The cartridge was dynamite in a small package.
Just the thing for today and it's reloadable.
It too was called the Ruger Hawkeye!
