    Lead price per LB?

Someone local to me has lead ingots from bullets reclaimed from range berms. What is a reasonable price nowadays to pay for lead that is ready to go?

    Thanks

I don't know, I'd offer a little more than a buck a pound for brass ingots though

I see it sell often for about a buck a pound. IMHO, that is a great price.

Think of it this way, you can order lead from various foundrys around for $1.50 a pound for pure Pb that is ready to melt and cast. So when buying from an individual and not knowing how well the lead is cleaned or fluxed or handled and not knowing if its contaminated. Most of us on this site will pay no more than a $1 to $1.25 per pound, given all the unknowns vs "pure" foundry lead. Clip on wheel weight lead ingots will bring a higher price maybe $1.50 per pound, again assuming their composition can be verified.

The local scrap yard charges $0.27 for wheel weights and $0.50 for range scrap. This is raw, not smelted into ingots. The range scrap has jacket material, though the ratio of lean to jacket material looks pretty good.

Start at $.75/lb and go up if you have to.

My local scrap yard charges $0.78/lb for any lead scrap he has, which is often lead pipe and flashing. Hopefully that helps.

Just picked up wheel weights for $0.65/lb and "clean lead" for $0.95/lb. Not the greatest prices, after reading the above but not a deal-breaker, either.

I once got a peck bucket of range scrap for $5.00, but only because the young scrapyard guy didn't know what it was. WW's go for .50/lb, and scrap lead goes for $1.00/lb. My yard has a lot of scrap lead. There is a stained glass shop in town, and they take all their old lead to the scrap yard. Think I'll see if they'll sell it to me for same price the scrapyard offers.

If you can get a good price on this stuff, you should stock up on it. It is typically 95/5 lead/tin solder, and is very clean.

What ever you have to pay now, will be cheap in another couple years. It's like putting money in a savings account.

Better than that! Have you looked at interest rates lately?
