.375 Winchester / N.O.E. 379235 RF Load Data

So I have my mold and am waiting on handles to arrive, so I was hoping to gather some insight on what others might be using for load data.

I will be using the Marlin, lever action .375 Winchester for this CB. More for shooting, not for hunting unless things go bad and jacketed bullets become unavailable.

I have taken several white tail deer in the woods of Pa. using this lever gun and want to be able to use it for teaching my grandsons how to handle center fire power after they graduate from .22 rimfire. So recoil is a consideration even though it is a heavy round.

Any input will be appreciated.

I'm not producing plinker loads but have had good luck with 1680/680 powder - RL 7 was recommended to me but I was happy with 680 I had on hand so never purchased any - 5744 didn't give quite the performance that 680 did. How light are you trying to go for your grandson's training rounds? When I was working up some subsonic's in other calibers I picked up some trailboss - it might be what your looking for.

I have good luck with 1680 also but I have only pushed pretty hard with it.
trail boss or unique would both be good low end powders 9 grs of unique is pretty light but enough to get decent accuracy from.
I size to 379 for my 375's. and my marlin likes water dropped boolits regardless of the velocity.

If your looking for loads for the grandson's I would suggest finding a few 38-55 level loads and starting there. I would imagine dimensions are close enough to interchange numbers if you're not pushing it to the max, and 38-55 loads in the 375 are a blast to shoot and still whack a dinger with authority. A guy on Marlinowners uses Unique (HE SAID 10 GRAINS BUT I'D LOOK UP YOUR OWN DATA) for his 38-55 and pushes a 250gr around 1300fps IIRC. Doesn't sound like much but he whacks metal out to 1000yds.

Just got done testing some loads out of my Marlin. I used IMR 3031 started on the low end 29.0 gr. @1584fps. Recoil is not bad at all.
I don't know your grandsons physical stature, but try starting at 7.0 gr up to 9.0 gr. of Trail Boss (Lyman Manual for a Saeco 225 38/55 load) Or, you can use Hodgdon's formula to find your own loads. Trail Boss is hard to beat for your application. Great and accurate bullet from NOE.

One grandson is 10 going on 16 and the other will be a while until he handles the .375. I have never used nor do I have the 1680 being mentioned. Who manufactures this powder? The 10 year old will be stretching a bit to shoulder the Marlin, so it needs to be light in the load to keep felt recoil down. I good rolled up towel will be helping there I think.

I have Unique, 2400, RE-7, 3031 and several other powders, but am willing to purchase additional brands to get where I need to go. 38-55 loads sound interesting and if I go that route, I will start light to be right. Trail Boss is useful in a lot of applications, I am thinking this might be one of the choices.

Accurate sold 1680 and Winchester sold 680 - pretty much the same powder (depending upon lot# of course) - a bit slower than 5744 sold by accurate -
