    7.7 Jap

Has anyone had any great success with a 31 inch, Stellite(chrome) lined barrel, old 7.7 Japanese rifle and cast bulllets?

Hope to soon. Waiting for the rifle to arrive. Planning to use my lee c312-185-1R and 4064.

Lee C312-185 is a good boolit in my Arisaka. I had best results with 3031, but RE7, 4895, & 4064 worked well. Only your rifle can tell you what it likes best.
    Born OK the first time.

Mine has the chrome bore. Slugging it showed a couple of narrow spots of maybe .315" or so, with the remainder somewhat larger. I use the Ideal 311299 unsized and a version of the 311291 with the shank oversized at .313" and the nose lapped to .303". It will generally stay under 4" at 100 yards.

My 99 arisaka is not selfish with its bore dimensions; it spreads them around to suit just about anyone. There one in there of nearly every size so I shoot my old 31141 unsized over 10 grs of Unique and it shoots about as good as my M1 and '03's.

I have had good luck with about 10 grains of Green Dot and a 190-200 gr bullet. I currently use a SAECO 301, sized .311

Mine does best with a bullet that is a bit oversized, the Lyman 314299. Though it just doesn't like cast very well- my best efforts so far are about 5" at 100 yards. Ok but not great- it shoots BEST with pulled jacketed argentine bullets of .313 diameter- I just transfer the charge from the argentine case to the Jap after verifying weight. 2" at 100. My bore slugs .313 anyhow.

My 7.7 is one of my more accurate rifles it loves a heavy boolit and a full case of IMR 5010. Mine shooots a .3115 best and am fixing to try a new .314 185/190 g in it when the wind drops below 50mph.

I use the lee 185 lino/ww mix and size .314.unique and AA5744 has turned some good groups.
the rifle was a present from a friend.it was done back in the 50-60's.the scope is a fine reticle 4X redfield.
