I have bought components every couple of months as money would allow for many years so I would have all I needed for when I retired and on a very fixed income. I have been retired for a year now and have enough to last unless a "war" starts. I probably won't buy any more unless I get another caliber to load. Who knows?

Timely post. Today for the first time ever, I had to pay a hazmat fee. Normally I get mine at the local gun store. After waiting 5-6 weeks for SR-4759 to come in, I finally gave up and ordered 2 lbs. from Midsouth. It really didn't hurt that bad, as the unit price of $20+ was less than I paid in the store. Dividing the $25 hazmat fee by two, makes the unit price $32. I'm sure I was paying at least $28 a lb. for it, so, an additional $4 each. Not so bad, considering I know I'll have some.

I have always had a decent supply on hand for each caliber that I load for.
I have made a concerted effort to build my supplies to last a couple of years this year and have succeeded despite market circumstances.
The next step is to secure enough primers and powders to last at least 5 years. That means approx. 30k bullets, primers, powder and, in my estimation at least 2K new cases for each caliber that I reload.
I still have work to do in that regard.
Because of the lack of anywhere local I've had to resort to buying on line. With the hazmat fee the only way I can make it work for me is to buy in large quantities, so instead of one pound I'm buying 8 or more. Primers by the case, or maybe cases at a time. Not a hoarder just making my dollar stretch as much as possible.
About the same. I had enough to get me through. I did recently pick up 1K SR primers as I was getting low.
I always seemed to have a good inventory of components on hand. I do find that I do not shoot certain calibers as much as I used to. Before the shortages in ammo, every time I saw 22lr. bulk ammo on sale for less than $20- per 500+ I would buy one or two boxes. Now I have about 60,000 rounds of 22lr. I have a couple of friends at work that were telling me they are not taking their kids shooting because of availability or price of 22. So I was able to hook them up. I can not let these kids go without.

What gets me is for some odd reason we end up with more Powder than primers lol. Lets try this or try that lol.

I started back into reloading again this year so obviously I have more than I did a year ago. Since I have added a new caliber I don't have enough powder. As for primers I am probably good for ten years of occasional shooting.
I have more but imho not enough.
What you need to worry about is brass for 'non-standard' calibers.
327 fed, 32 hr, 32/20,38/40, 44/40 those are just examples...
Try to find 22 hornet brass right now and you will see what i am talking about.
38 special, 9mm , 40 sw, 45acp your pretty safe on finding brass on the used market

It wouldn't be that bad but the last batch I bought was junk. Almost a full half were at the point of case head separation. I'm assuming the seller got them from a scrap yard.
I don't have a lot more, but I do have a few more, because I used to just buy it the week before I loaded it since my LGS always had a great stock..... but now I do buy 3 or 4 packs of primers at a time. (at $4.30 a pack, still)

I won't have to sweat the primers for a good couple of years. The powder, I'll have to get some of. Not lots, just some. Mike

I'm about the same, but did run out of shotgun primers a few weeks ago
