    Barnes banded solid "clone", .512 @ 700gr

Some of you might have seen my post about me being given a 510 wells rifle. This got me thinking about boolits for this gun and others like it. I was given loaded ammo with the gun that where loaded with the 570gr Barnes banded solids. The guy that have me the gun said that those bullets work amazing on everything he has shot in africa. So my idea is to clone the 570gr Barnes banded solid and put it in a mold. The grooves might be moded slightly to hold lube better. So I would like to see by a raise of hands who's interested in something like this. According to my math we will be right around 700grs in weight, maybe a tic more. For those who don't know what these bullets look like here is a picture.

You can sell some to guys for use as ingot moulds.

That would be a good looking cast bullet.

If this gets made, I would pay for someone to cast and mail me a few. I need some new doorstops.

These reminded me of the short sections of core samples often used as doorstops in the houses of friends whose fathers worked in the oil and gas industry when we were growing up.

700+ grains....now that is slinging some lead!

I'm building a .50 Razorback right now. All I lack is getting the reamer and headspace gage. Got a picture? I might be interested.

One reason I like shotguns, is that they can make these look puny.

Can you design your reamer, tooling, etc. so you can cut multiple calibers. I need a ~ .411 boolit of about that length.

    Hi JT,

looks good. I don't think it needs any modification at all. I just don't know if it'll end up needing a gas check shank, given the range of firearms it could be shot from.

Keep us up to date on the 500LB project. I have dreams of re-boring my BFR to 500 LB and shooting m33 ball out of it.

Sized at 512 I would be in for one. My 50-90 needs a heavy slug like that.

would the nose be bore riding? how hard would you have to push it for a 1-20 twist?

I will have to look at the twist rate needed to drive this. About bore riding, I think the brass is a bore rider but I will have to look at the ones I have at home.

At the 700gr, one that takes a GC would be good. Maybe you could also cut a mould, not running the reamer in so deep, so as to have a 3 groove design that is a bit lighter at maybe 550gr or so. Feed my BMG and my 50AK with the lighter boolit.
