    Where to get?

    Gentlemen,

I've read a few times on here about people using spray graphite on top of mold blocks as a lube. I think I'd like to try it. Other than ordering it from a casting/reloading supplier such as midway, where can I obtain spray graphite? Hopefully locally. I understand that it's a lubricant? What is it's primary use? I thought maybe it was an automotive item, but a call to 2 different auto parts stores turned up empty.

    Thanks for any help.

I apologize in advance for not actually answering your
question, but --- I believe you will find that Bull Plate Lube
is much more satisfactory than spray graphite.

Check the Bull Shop at the bottom of the page, and use
the search to read the dozens of extremely satisfied
    users on the board.

I am in no way related to Bull Shop except as a very
    satisfied customer.

    I's cheap, too.

I second MtGun's recomendation of Bull Plate Lube being better than spray graphite. I went from pencil lead, to artist's graphite sticks, to spray graphite. Each change was an improvement. Bull Plate Lube is the best. It not only prevents lead smears almost entirely, it removes them. After an hour or two of casting the BPL should be redone. If i go too long and get a small lead smear, after reapplying BPL the smear goes away in one or two casts. (I'm not in Dan's family either, though they do seem to be a fine bunch to hang around with.)

If you really want to give the Graphite a try then you might check at your local NAPA Auto Parts store. That's where I bought mine before I started using BullPlate myself.

Product you want is NAPA's DGF 123 in the lubricants section. Ask for powdered graphite and they'll tell you all they have is a itty bitty tube for locks.

SSB, you might want to use Permatex® Anti Seize instead of graphite:

Yes, the stuff works GREAT for me and i can buy locally. i just use a Q-tip to apply to molds. I also use it for all nuts & bolts that i someday want to disassemble on my work vehicle.

I have dry graphite and moly spray I picked up at work when they replaced it. Out of date stuff they did on perfectly good things.
I tried both on molds and the ladle. It just doesn't stick good and wipes off too easy.
Bull plate or Rapine mold prep are my choices.

I've got the copper Anti-Sieze, made for high temperature. Is this what you guys use? If I put on too much, will I wind up with the "C" word bullets?
