Took a Giraffe with the .44

    Hallo Okes

This is a post to thank you guys for the advice you gave me a couple of years ago in a thread : http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...20gr-JDJ-mould

I had just good success with the WW 320grain LBT LFN so far in my Ruger Super Readhawk .44 Magnum. I shot numerous animals with it from springbuck to Kudu and now Giraffe. It went through everything I shot at, eaven at any angle exept on a Blesbuck Ram I took with a frontal shot at 164yards, in wich the boolit was found under the skin on the theigh after smashing the sholder on entry.

I took the bull giraffe at 77 yards with a quatering away shot. The boolit entered on the ribcage at the last rib on the leftside and exit on the right shoulder. The distance of the compleate boolit path was about 45". I was amazed with the exeptional penetration. The carkase of the bull (dressed), weight in at 1716 lb

    Once again thank you all.

Lots of neck meat!! Joking aside, those LBT designs in "heavy for caliber" weights, are tops for large game, best of the best.

The meat is fairly good, but firm.

You're going to need to raise the ceiling for a shoulder mount! Congrats!
The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

That is some impressive performance from a boolit, and some impressive shooting I might add.

Interesting. How many cubic feet of freezer do you need for that. I wonder what Lyman would of said about point blank range with a boiler room that size. I wish deer were that big while looking for them after the shot in brush.

My, but I thought the title was a kidder when it said "Giraffe", that's outstanding!

In the olde thread it sounded as if it would be a major uphill climb to get permits to handgun hunt, could you give us a little more of what got you to this point, and any of the hunt(s) would be fantastic. So many of us dreamed as starry eyed kinder of traveling to your homeland to hunt as you have done. Thanks so much for posting!

I think we should get rid of the 120mm SABOT round for the M1 and go to the 44 lol. 45 inches is crazy!

I watch a special one time that showed giraffes fighting, it was impressive to say the least. I too would be curious as to what it taste like.
I don't have a problem, with it, but I just never had thought of hunting giraffe or zebra.
