    Cast .410 Slug

Would bullets cast from a Lyman 410610 work as a suitable slug for a 2 1/2" .410. this mold casts at +/-215 grs which is close to 1/2 an ounce.

My Lyman manual does not have any data for .410 slug loads, so I'll be hunting down an additional manual for .410 data. What recommendations do you have?

    Thanks

This is there loading manual for slugs. I would think some one here would have it and let you know if it had the loads you need or take the time to post some, I don't usually post unless I scan the page, there's know typing errors that way.
    Randy

I went and looked I have there 3rd edition

They have a listing of 4 loads for 2 1/2" and 3" they are for 84gr LGS-41 Slug but they are to light, here is the Buckshot loads.

    There is 2 / 208gr buckshot 2 1/2" loads
Load Id, Powder, Grains, Primer, Wad Column,
    41012-482 Longshot 8gr Ched-209 Stretch+(4)00 pellets
PSI 11500 FPS 1200 OS41 over shot card

    41012-580 H110 16gr Ched-209 Stretch+(4)00 pellets
PSI 7400 FPS 1200 OS41 over shot card

    There is 2 / 201gr buckshot 3" loads

    80271-484 Lil' Gun 18gr Ched-209 BX410 + (3)000
    (2) NC41 over shot
    PSI 11100 FPS 1460

    80271-485 Lil' Gun 20gr Ched-209 BX410 + (3)000
    (2) NC41 over shot
    PSI 11700 FPS 1570

If you use any of this data I would email them to make sure it will work I don't know if your slug will fit in a these wads.

I just got the Ballistics Products Slug Manual and will check it out when I get home tonight and see if it is any newer than the third edition or has any more/different data. Also got the newest Buckshot manual which just came out a few weeks ago. Both cover .410 I believe and have some data, not a whole lot, but some. Give me a few hours and I'll get you some info.

I was going to offer the same info from the same manuals, but others have you covered. Other daya will be any shot loads over 1/2oz in the 2.5" 410 should be safe.
One load that has made rounds on the net is 8gr-to-16gr of Alliant 2400 w a 210gr slug, wadcutter loaded nose down (backwards) into a BPI stumpy wad (*); no velocity info though. But I have tried the 8gr load in a full choke 410 and it shot straight without bulging the choke.

Thanks for the info. I'm considering loading these in a blownout .303 case for a .410 Enfield. I'm sure there will be enough room in the case as from what I have read most wads are a little loose.

Thanks for the offer, however this will probably be limited to data for 2 1/2" shells.

The only issue I see with that mold is that it is not hollow base and the slug will tumble. For smooth bore the slug must be a weight forward design. Rifled barrel it would be fine. D
