190 with GC, .30-06 in M-1917 Powder suggestions please

I don't cast for rifle, but I got a bunch of 190's, lubed with gas check and want to use them up.
    I have 4895, 2520, Varget, N130, N140, N540, N550, and some bullseye.
I have that polyester filler stuff too.
Can someone give me an out-of-the-box load that will go 200 yards in my M1917 for any of the above powders?
    Regards, Ray

What diameter are the bullets, and how hard are they?

Have you slugged the bore on your M1917? They tend to run large.

Also,if you don't have a 120- degree V-anvil micrometer, wrap the slug in bond paper, measure it, then subtract twice the paper thickness to get true size. If your rifle is typical groove diameter is closer to .310" than to .308" and throat will run large .310+, so offhand my best guess is unless the bullets you were given are at least. 311", you should not expect much.

If the bullets you have are soft enough that you can mark them with your thumbnail, and are. 311" or larger, load 16 grs. of #2400 or 8 grains of Bullseye and enjoy!

You might also try 16.0 Grains of Alliant 2400 should you have that powder available.
Travels at about 1550fps in my M1917 using a Lyman 311644 boolit seated at OAL of 3.215 inches.

They measure right at .310" and are pretty hard. Perhaps I should run them through an 03-A3 instead?

This is the "Go To" load for 30 cal milsurps shooting cast.
It is the closest you'll get to a "out-of-the-box load that will go 200 yards in my M1917" without doing your homework.
    Good Luck,

Give them a try. You might get lucky. If they lead with 16 grs. of #2400, then get. 303 British bullets next time.

    4759 or 4227.

Start around 20 gr IIRC. See the Lyman book.

28 - 30 gr of the 4895 with a 3/4 gr dacron filler will do nicely.

I can't chamber anything larger than 310 in my 1917.
but starting at 16 grs of 2400 and bumping it 1/2 gr at a time till you find the sweet spot will shoot as good as the rifle will.
the load Larry shows will probably be a bit more accurate [it generally is for me] but the bulk shooting stuff just gets the 2400 for speed and ease of loading.
I shoot mostly at 100 yd paper targets then flip up the rear sight and bang the 8" gong at 300 until I get bored with it then shoot something else.
