    Winchester Magnum Rifle powder

Found someone with 10 one pounders @ $13 per pound

    - Anyone have any experience with it - looks to be in 4831 burn rate.

I'm seeing some data for my 243 WCF.

I know of it, and I can tell you it wasn't on the market all that long. I've never used it, no need to, other powders worked as well or better.

Now, if I remember correctly, there may have been issues with it and reduced charges. I'm nowhere near sure, and the only reason I'm mentioning that is safety.

I do use WW-785, and that one DOES have issues with reduced loads, so I don't reduce those loads. I got a good enough deal on it that I bought 24 pounds. Magnums that are within big case capacity and such. And, 243 Win seems to like it too.

MRP replaced WW-785, for the most part, and WW-785 replaced WW-780. That's from what I understand. If someone knows that info better than me, please share it.

WMR was right in the burn rate of 4831 or Norma MRP and is just a hint faster than the current Supreme 780. Should be usable in the 243 but as mentioned above, not a good choice for less than 100% case density loads as is true of pretty much all slow ball powders.4

Here are a couple old winchester data manuals that include WMR - by 1999 it had been replaced and was no longer listed.

I know it's an old thread but I picked up 3# of this powder a few years ago because it was cheap. I wouldn't have got it had I know how little info there was on it or that it wasn't around any more. Anyway every once in awhile I go through my stash of powder and get thinking about it again so I emailed Winchester powder who referred me to Hodgdon who handles all their powder now. They asked me what I wanted to shoot it in and I threw them a bunch of calibers so here it is less than a week later I got some data mailed to me. It starts with 243 and goes up through 338 Win Mag.

I still have over half of an 8 pound can of it. My chronograph results using WMRP indicate that is is slightly slower than H-4831 in burn rate. My can came with some basic reloading data, and using that data I had to surpass their recommended maximum loads to attain the same velocities I get with both 785 and H-4831 in my .300WM.
