bbaily, what's the chambering on the Katahdin? I just picked up an MGM 27 inch 1-15 twist 50 Alaskan barrel, 50 empty Starline brass & Hornady dies. Also got a MGM 25 inch 500 S&W barrel. Already have "H" type swaging dies for both. Cant wait to get them out to the range to shoot. Do any of you think a 700gr boat tail will stabilize with the Alaskan's 1-15 twist? I'm going to find out. If not I will use the 500gr WFN from an NOE mold.

stabilize???? The JBM ballistics calculator works pretty well for determining numbers like that but you know our BMG barrels are 15 twists. Only one way to find out.

As for the big 500s..... sure is fun to see and hear about the various calibers you guys are shooting them in. I got a 20" barrel for my Savage shooting a straight wall case that holds up to 100 grains. So far I have pushed the 335 grain bullet to 2400 FPS and look forward to doing some more shooting with it.

Here it is next to a 223rem imp. I'll have to take some more pics of it with my bullets and one of the gun.

OK, Now I'm jealous. Mine is just a wimpy 500 S&W, but I'm still proud of it!

Yes I'm looking into it. I was troubled by this too. I some how have three 45 cal core seat dies without a point form die to go with it. The numbers should have matched with the numbers I machined this spring. I'll look around a bit more see if I simply misplaced a couple 45 cal point form dies. May have placed them in with the .458 dies???? I'm still looking into it and will let you know what I come up with. I'm doing my best.

    Mosby,

I got the solution. Everyone is getting their dies. I haven't found the missing 45 cal point form dies yet but what I was able to do was take a couple oversized 40 cal dies and bore them up successfully to 45 cal. I just finished one and the results where perfect. I have always been a little hesitant to rebore a die that has already been Nitrided but I have Carbide reamers! They cut threw and produced excellent results.

Since I cut threw the nitrided surface (typically about .004-.010 thick) I will send these additional 45 cal dies I recut from oversized 40s in to be nitrided again. The results will be just as good if not better then had they been originally a 45 cal die to start with. Rest assured! They will be perfect too!

I expect to have a batch of dies (draw dies, derim dies and other various dies) ready for Nitride in 4-8 weeks.

I hope this brightens your day a bit. I'm thrilled actually! I will be able to get these last 4 dies to the 45 cal customers a lot sooner then if I had to machine them all from the beginning of the process.

I'm sorry my numbers came up short on the 45 cal point form dies. I machined over 400 dies this spring and even kept track on my work order list????? I'm still human I guess. I have come up with a perfect solution, it will just take me a few extra weeks to send them off with the next nitride batch. I looked threw my .458 dies again but didn't find the missing 45 cal point form dies. If they miraculously turn up I'll be sure to let you guys know and get them on their way ASAP. Still got many more dies to work on as well with 2013 invoice numbers.

It is still looking very good!

    Thanks for all your patience.

Happy customer here. My 40 and 45 dies showed up Wednesday and I am quite happy. Will be putting the through their paces soon enough. The wait was worth it.

Great news Brian. It makes a lot of sense to get all the orders on the same caliber done at once. That gets everyone's orders out faster in the long run by saving you setup time. I just talked to Dave Corbin, and he told me that is how they run their custom orders in his shop. They cycle through the caliber list. Smart.

Thanks for the updates. It helps my patience.

I expect to have a lot of 500s, 45s, and 40 cal dies ready in the next few days, possibly all of them depending on how things go. If you have remaining balance on your account be sure to check in with me. I know I have a couple additional calibers hidden in the mix there too, I'm getting to them all.

I have 6 of my BT 40 cal dies on the table ready to be boxed up, This covers the entire list of BT 40 cals ! The few CH 40s I have on the list will be done as well. I also got one more set of 45 cal dies ready to be boxed up that takes me up to 2013-100 on the 45s. I got 3 additional oversized 40 cal dies to ream up to 45 to go with the one I already reamed up and that will cover all the 45s on order. I'll get those Nitrided just as soon as possible. I only have two more 500 dies on the list. I'll have those done and shipped first of next week too!

After these dies are out the door I will be neck deep in 22 cal dies finishing up orders.

I feel like I am catching up and able to see the light again. Please keep posted as I make updates to the list.

    Thanks

    Brian

Very impressive Brian. You are getting a lot of orders out in a very systematic way. This should give existing and future customers a lot of confidence about placing orders. The updates, the work order list, and the openness to respond is really great.

Great products, great customer service. I predict you really are going to do well and be in this for the long term.

I'm very thankful to have such a quality person to join the ranks of good product providers in this field.

Thanks Roll Tide. I'm certainly making progress. I recognize your name here as one of the orders I completed this week, or that I am currently working on, so you should be expecting your new dies at your door step very soon. A big thanks goes out to everyone that has been waiting longer then expected. At my current rate of progress I expect to have all 2013 invoice numbers shipped by end of year or sooner, probably get quite a few of the 2014 orders done too.

Yes I am in this for the long haul, I'm only 38 years young now so I expect many more years in this career. I am continuing to improve my products as well as streamline my operations. There has been a bit of a learning curve and a bit of growing pains for me in the running of a new business but I am slowly getting it all figured out.

I'll do my best to keep you guys informed here and continue providing the absolute best products I can.

Thank you everyone for your continued patience and support.

    Good shooting and swage on!

HOT DIGGIDY DANG. Excuse my French boys, but I am excited. I hear many here say that swaging is not a money saving enterprise. I beg to differ. I have a set of 500 dies coming. Factory rounds average about $50 per 20 rounds. That is $2500 per thousand. I bought an RCE Walnut Hill press, BT Sniper dies, ejection system, xtp star tool, and universal expanding die. This cost me about $1500, all new prices. I got 1000 S&W 500 case (fired brass), 1000 45 ACP fired brass, 42 pounds of lead, 5 pounds of powder, 1000 primers at less than $600 cost. That is $2100 all told for my first 1000 rounds of 500S&W. Including price of top of the line press, dies, and accessories, I will still save over $ 400. My next 1000 rounds using the same equipment and brass will cost me $300, or a savings of $2100. That is the most expensive caliber to shoot for me, but I do shoot it. How long is it going to take me to shoot 1000 rounds? I am not exactly sure, but 2 things I am sure of. I am going to shoot it a LOT faster than I did at $2.50 per round, and I am going to have a lot of fun finding out. Now calculating savings on my next caliber will not include a prorated cost on the press, and accesories, because I already recouped enough money on this caliber to pay for those, plus $400 toward the price of the next set of dies. I just can't understand how swaging is not a money saver. It is for me right out of the box. YMMV.

I am like a kid at Christmas, waiting for the postman.

    Thanks Brian

Yep! The .500 is a very good money saving round to swage and reload for. I expect to be shooting it a lot more myself, not 500 S&W but the same bullet anyway.

After you have the tooling 45 ACP brass and lead should be very easy to obtain.

Good shooting and swage on! Keep us posted.
