    H5010 Hodgdon

Does anyone have load data for this powder? I understand it has been discontinued by Hodgdon. I've asked them for info but can't seem to get a response.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I think origonal data was to fill the case, compress with a heavy boolit/bullet,and use a magnum primer far any cartridges up to 20mm.
Its a bit on the slow side for anything that does not include super or ultra in its name. Works good duplexed in BPC cases though.
CAUTION!!! any data from this source should always be aproached with extream coution.

It would help if you indicated what cartridge/caliber you want to use H 5010 in and the approx. weight of the CB you'll be using before we can assist you. In the mean time, search the forum for IMR 5010 as there are several posts there.

    Mavens,

I'd like to use it in the 30-06, 270 Win or 300 Win Mag

    Thanks

jefats, In the '06, use a heavy cast bullet (175gr. - 190gr.) and start with 48gr. 5010 + a magnum primer. However, you'll get cleaner (more efficient) burning if you use 1.0cc of poly- shotgun filler or powdered bran (bran run thru an elec. coffee grinder). Store loads with filler with the primers facing you so that it (the filler) doesn't migrate into the powder charge.

Sorry if I came across as a wise acre. I was tryin ta be funny and at the same time share what I know about 5010.
After the fact I thought I could have been more helpfull and maybe could have been considered rude.
Thats why I went to look for data but came up blank, other than my own duplex loads.
This may be of some help though, on my burn rate chart H5010 is # 242 as compaired to H-870 at # 240 and H 50 BMG at #244.
In this case I would feel safe subbing 5010 for 870. The problem I think you will run into with that is your case will be filled to overflowing with an equal weight of 5010 as compaired to 870. The 870 being a ball and the 5010 being a very cource extruded stick equal weights will have vastly differant volumes. For this reason I feel it would be quite safe to use an equal weight of 5010 to any weight of 870 that will fit a case, or as much of that weight that will fit into the case.
