Canadian (your side of the pond) Lee Enfield No 4 MK 1* Long Branch.
Restored gun blue, varnish wire wooled off and linseed oiled with a indian colour wood
dye and sealed with bees wax. New extractor claw and extractor spring
Hope you like, it shoots great with open sights
Very nice! When I was in Italy last year, No.4 rifles which had previously been issued to the maritime police were being offered surplus and were quite in demand!

Very nice! You don't see many of these with decent wood any more. I passed up on one this winter that had a 5 round clip, but the money wasn't there so memory is all I have of it.

You have a very fine looking rifle. I especially like your treatment of the stock.
My first Long Branch #4 was issued to me at Camp Dundurn Saskatchewan in 1958. I've owned #4 rifles since that long-ago time, but never a LB-built rifle..... until a couple years ago.
NV Curmudgeon took me to a newish gunshop on Reno's south end, and there I found a NEW UNISSUED 1943 Long Branch #4. The rifle is literally untouched, and is a dream come true. The price was not bad at $270 (after a bit of haggling).
The rifle on this thread looks just about as nice.... but I didn't have to do all that work!

My Long Branch No 4 Mk 1* is a Thorough Factory Rebuild and doesn't have the nice grade of wood seen above, but it probably hadn't been fired after its rebuild until I bought it 15 years or so ago. It has all matching numbers to include the magazine. Like Outpost, I added an AJ Parker wind gauge rear sight (screws onto the original sight) with a variable aperture and a leather comb to place my eye behind the sight when shooting.

Yes the good old girls look very good and they are a pleasure to shoot, own and clean.
They are a art in there own.
Just wish i got one years ago, but have shot all the range of enfields, its just great putting lead down the range with one.
A little addition to the Long Branch story.
A No 7 MkI .22 cal trainer. It has a finely adjustable rear sight, a single shot loading tray for the follower that has an ejection hole in the rear so that the empty cases fall into the magazine body and can then be emptied out after shooting. It also has a nicely fitted wood case with all markings similar to the No4T sniper rifle cases.
I use this and other .22 cal military training rifles for Boy Scout and Hunter Safety training. The older kids really find firing the military rifles interesting and they get their full attention.

I ordered that sight out of England perhaps 30 years ago. In correspondence with the AJ Parker Company (snail mail days), I had the distinct impression that it was a small family run business. I have no idea if they are still in business.

Sadly AJ Parker is no more ,The company has long gone and the only spares are floating around in various shop, web etc.
