New way to use the lee sizing dies

So I've always hated that stupid red container that goes on top of the lee sizing dies. When you size boolits with a large flat nose they tend to stack and knock the top of the container off, spilling boolits all over the bench. So I did this

Mounted el cheapo $20 single stage press to a piece of 2x4

Then clamped the 2x4 in my bench vise so the press is mounted upside down.

Then put a piece of tubing over the end of the sizing die.

The bullets get put in the sizing die nose first. This in itself makes sizing go twice as fast. They get pushed through the sizing die and slide down the tube into my fancy dollar store bullet boxes.

That's a neat trick. Might have to try that when I get my hands on a cheap sizing press.

Do the bullets get " dinged " when they arrive in your catch container.

Looks like they could really gain some speed going down the chute ? ?

Ben, no because the tubing has the curve to it, they slow down pretty well before exiting the tube. They pretty much just drop out. It seems like they are getting less dinged up this way, no rubbing past eachother like in the red lee container.

Here are a few other similar ways of doing the same thing.

I wounder if the Lube-a-matic could be modified to do this. Maybe you could lube at the same time?

It is hard to damage the bullets, bullets shoot out of my automatic sizer with enough velocity to put a bruise on your hand and I never have a problem with dents. I just bought a classic cast press with plans to mount it upside down for small runs and testing.

My smartreloader press did one other thing...Lose me money.
I bought it for $16 and sold it for $5 at a gunshow...I gave the buyer full disclosure what a *** it was...that was the only good part of that deal.

jonb_in_glenco: Believe I need a .461" resizing die for my used RCBS lube-a-matic. RCBS reports they don't make it, .459" max. I recall. Do you machine such things?

My LYMAN Mold #457193, 45-70-405 FLAT NOSE, Plain Base, Non Gas Chk is dropping 20:1 boolits at .460"-.4615". They are not perfect cylinders. Maybe someone will say "Just load'em & shoot.". Not sure I NEED to resize. I'm planning to tumble lube with LSStuff/White Lable 45-45-10 juice. I'm new at this and open to the collective knowledge within this forum. Thanks in advance for your time.

nouseforaname: I'd like to buy your Lee resizing "red container" you're fed up with.
