Why not to use Teflon coated muffin pans?

Been trying to find out why you can't or is not recommended to use teflon coated pans for ingots.
Thanks for passing along any info.

When Teflon burns (smokes) it gives off a poison gas. Not good until it's burned off, then not a problem.

I've used one. The Teflon burns/bubbles and leaves a cratered finish on the ingots and the fumes are toxic. No big deal for me, I don't stand over the pan breathing the fumes and the cratered/bubbled finish don't matter...

Because it comes off the pan eventually. Google "Teflon flu". That being said I burnt the teflon off my pans before I poured any lead into them.

For months I argued with my wife about Teflon frying pans. I said they were fine in the dishwasher and she said "No. No way are my good pans going through the dishwasher!" I finally got exasperated enough to look it up on the internet and.........she was right! Teflon is NOT as securely bonded to those pans as I thought, so repeated runs through the dishwasher begins to remove the material and sometimes gets it in your cooking food later on.

So, if a miserable dishwasher can pull the coating off what do you think lead at 750 degrees will do? Thanks Honey, learned a lesson or two there.

I took mine outside and put a drill mounted wire brush to them. No more teflon.

Silicon molds work for the guy on Youtube.
They say up to 450 degrees on the label, so I've no idea how they'd hold up long term.

Titan Reloading has the Lee ingot mold for $10.

I use a ladle for my "muffins". I water quench it for fast cooling. About a minute, then I tip the result onto the cement floor (under the table, out of easy kicking range) to finish cooling. They don't stack well at all.

Don't try silicon molds for lead. Unless they are supported with another pan or something to the sort, the silicone softens (not melts), and will not stand/hold it's shape! Hot lead everywhere! BTDT...

What I want to know is where Baby Oil comes from.
