To simplify this rifle/pistol thing it's perfectly legal to use a 16" or longer barrel but if a shoulder stock is added then the barrel MUST be 16" or longer. It's perfectly legal to convert that Contender into a carbine by fitting a shoulder stock and 16+" barrel and as long as it was originally sold as a pistol it's perfectly legal to switch back and forth, just don't use a short barrel with the shoulder stock! A rifle however CAN NOT be legally converted to a pistol! As long as it started as pistol it can go either way but if it starts as a rifle it must remain in a rifle configuration.

So to make a long story short if you want a 16+" barrel go for it, you will be legal either way and with that barrel you can also opt for the carbine configuration.

    ok
    thanks you guys.
mine is legally a pistol so i can do what i want except the short bbl. rifle stock.
a 16+ would be ideal for me then.
i decided i am just going to make a aluminum benchrest forend with holes drilled and movable pillars for any hole spacings i run across.
while i would LIKE to spend a fortune on lots of different wood furniture.
i cant afford it and would rather spend my limited funds on barrels.
    thanks again guys.

Here is my Contender carbine that has barrels in 22LR match, 17 Mink, and 257 Raptor. Stock is a u-finish stock from Bullberry with an endcap and pistol grip cap from wood left over from a project we did in an orphanage in Thailand while serving with the Marines.

    T/c 25/20

These are my 2 Newest for the T/C. One is a 16 1/2" SSK 25/20, the other is a MGM 22" 25-20 wearing a Tony's stock and forearm. Never casted before but have been gearing up to do so.

Tigerbight that 16.5" 25/20 looks great. I have been thinking about a 20" tapered 25/20 to go with my 24" bull 256WM. What you gonna shoot with them? (loads and critters)

A good friend borrowed mine to teach his son to shoot. When he brought it back, it looked like this. He made me a shoulder stock for it. I had to explain to him that it needed a longer barrel to be legal. I eventually found a .222 barrel for it.

The 10" .32-20 barrel on the T/C frame. These barrels are impossible to find now and those of us who may have one consider ourselves very lucky. T/C made the bore of the barrels .308 and not .312 so .308 varmint bullets could be used. When casting bullets, one can size from .309 to .313 with no adverse affects. I routinely size my cast bullets to .312 and you will see the results. Bullets shown are 110gr .308 varmint bullets. This load moves them to about 2400 fps out of the 10" barrel.

Tar Heel, when you say "brand new", are we talking a new old stock item, or a recently made one? I'm hoping you're telling us that they are being made and available again. Please say it's so!!!
I passed my last psych eval, how bout you?

I ordered the frame from another user here on the forum. The frame is new (NIB) and I don't know how long he had it before deciding to sell it. If you need a blued G2 frame which is NIB, I can point you to a straight shooter who has at least one left. I have had the bbl for over 20 years.

My local gun stores could not locate any T/C frames from their suppliers and Gander Mountain, God bless them, only wants $9,483.76 for a *** used T/C. I figured I'd ask here on the CB forum and it paid off for me.

Does the brake on the 45-70 help much with recoil?

The muzzle of the 411-JDJ barrel after 20 rounds of 340gr cast bullets over the chronograph. The muzzle "flower" indicates enough lubricant and no leading indicates correct lubricant.

The 411-JDJ with 340gr cast bullets at 1900fps. OUCH! I'm shooting over a chronograph.

A stop-action shot of the Magna-Ports working on a 375-JDJ with a 270gr cast GCFP bullet at about 1800fps. I added the red lines to show the dispersion pattern.
