    Iwo Jima vet Ron Wood passes

    I just learned that Iwo Jima vet Ron Wood passed on last week. Ron was a young Navy officer aboard one of the ships off Iwo during the campaign for the island. What makes Ron stand out is the fact that he procurred the flag and passed it on to the Marines that went up Surbachi. The flag was raised and then later replaced by a larger naval flag from a Pearl Harbor damaged ship. Now you know who supplied the flag that the Marines raised first on the sulphur mountain on a piece of scrap water pipe.Robert
