    Paint these 450's, . . . what color?

The Box-O-Stuff from a recent gun show is getting some attention. A buddy let me use his sandblasting cabinet this morning. What color should I paint these things? Sort of a poll. I know I should use some paint that will get hard, like engine block paint. Should I spray on a coat of primer first? I'll get the paint tomorrow.

You can't go wrong with a coat of primer. Primer will really help the paint stick.

Did you buy these to resale? If you are keeping em for yourself paint em what ever color matches your other reloading equipment. If you are selling one offer it sandblasted. That way the customer can paint it what color they like.

    Just my two cents.

I think they came in orange and gray. I have an orange one, which I think looks fine but the gray might hide grease a little better. Don't know what the equivalent colors are in any brand of paint, but if there is any place around near you that does bake on powder coating you might check it out.

I am partial to Jaguar "Racing Green", which is a dark green. Almost "forest green". I mean, why paint 'em in original colors? If you are keeping them to use, make a statement and paint 'em YOUR favorite color! If Lyman made 'em to order, I would imagine VERY FEW would order them in either their "Lyman Orange" or their "horribly bland gray" finish. Really.

IF you paint 'em any other color, post it for us to see. I bet you will see a correlation between "imaginative and creative types" and "less-than-imaginative types" who would want to stick with bland colors. Of course, if for sale, the Lyman Orange would be the way to go. I don't care much for the bland gray-tone they use. That is the color of my 450 and I am less than enthused.

A friend of mine runs a company that does the dip-in camouflage treatment on guns, stocks, etc. (I think it's called Midwest Hydrographics.) It would be a hoot to get one of his camo jobs on some reloading gear!

mmmm chrome ..... now i want one !!! lolz

i use a hi heat engine paint for mine ( chevy orange to be exact ) it's a lil darker and brighter than the lyman original orange ( which dupli-color's hemi orange is closer to ) the grey is kind of harder to match seems to be a sort of krinkly finish , the new color is a 3-d type grey/black/silver texture
i dont prime mine unless you count a couple of real thin first coats with the same color , some colors however may be best with a primer or a primer/sealer
best tip ? wipe grease in the threads and bores you dont want painted ( and only there ) as it'll just wipe right off later and is a lil easier than masking tape

I like the chrome too. It'd be easier to keep wiped down. I was real impressed with the sandblasting job. I picked up a sandblaster last summer at a yard sale, with the 50# bag of Black Diamond, it was $20.00. I haven't tried it out yet, but now I'm looking at that Lyman 45 I have.....and the Hornady Pro-7, they could both use a make-over.

    Hi,
Paint them dark blue and pretend they are STAR's! Sorry!

    You guys are sick!

Lyman 450's were painted gray. Get some "Machine Gray Rustoleum" and be done with it. You don't need primer because you are painting a sandblasted surface.

Make sure you don't get any paint down into the htreads where the die sits or you'll never get the nut started again.

I think Blammer has the right idea. Hot Pink and Neon Green. Just sayin'.
But since my right hand is sometimes faster than my left hand, bright red might help hide the blood.
