    2 ball load info

    2 ball load
I have done many searches and tried many combinations of words but cannot find the data for 2 ball loads for 12 ga and or 20 ga.
If someone could find it for me I would appreciate it.
    Thank you

That's as close as I could find.

    http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...r-10-y-o/page2

Shows a wad that may be useable with 2- 600"diameter balls, but no one has data. We were just kicking the idea around.

I think there was a manufacturer/importer that did some 2 ball loads. Centurian, I think.

    Good luck with the project.

I have a load recipe I copied off shotgunworld for double 0.690" RB but it is for 3" hulls. I will post it if you want it but have not used it myself so cannot vouch for safety.

Adder: Chicken Thief posted photos of a dual ball wad here in post #68:

There must be loading info if they sell wads. This looks interesting.

Thanks for the links. I will be doing a lot more work with shotguns now that CT has made all the black rifles illegal. I'm working on short range light self defense loads for my daughters 20 ga. and 40 yard and less for the 12s for us big guys.

Thanks Excess. I'm going to have to source some SR4756, and the BP wads. Looks to be only two thirds as punishing to the shoulder as the Tri-Ball.

Here is my 2 ball load for 2 3/4 hulls. A straight wall hull is best. 31 grns 540(HS 6) is what I used but will be trying Longshot. VP 65 multimetal wad, cup portion only of 20 ga AA wad sliced off and inserted into 12 ga wad, buffer to seat 1st .570 round all, 1 ball on top of 2nd ball, buffer on top to flatten load, 16 ga shot card, crimp. Sounds complicated but really not. I loaded and shot 3 shells yesterday and was pretty amazed at initial result. Wish AJ owned Longbow would take a look at this load and come up with GPS and psi.

In 12 gauge weight might be a problem!
    A .725" ball weighs 37gram~572grain~1.3oz
    A .680" ball weighs 30.6gram~472grain~1.08oz
So any way we are in 3½" magnum territory for loadings and data.

If i was to choose it would be a stack of .36" shot. Better pattern and they will sting at fair ranges!

What i have found (with the limited arsenal of powder i have) is that at some point the cap will move powder and load some way into the barrel and powder burn will die of, ie. big misfire. Duplex fixed that.

Thing is with larger .680" and up balls, two of them cut speed quite a bit.
Two .570-577" balls much better, get better speed and trajectory.
Our super sabot works good with two of them. Payload of about
560 gr, 280gr each and use 45gr of alliant steel, and you have equivalent
of two 58cal guns. We have sabots.Ed

Ed, how do sabots work in smooth bore? How about Fed. 2 3/4 Hulls? I have those and AA.
    Thanks, Hogtamer

In smooth two balls within 6" at 30 yds. We flatten bottom ball in
a vise just a little, with flats up and down, so it pushes on top ball
square. Best in 3" and longer cases. If 2 3/4" less room for powder.
About 41gr alliant steel in shorter cases. We use plasti cseal and
a thin white felt wad. Longer cases with little more felt wad are
more accurate and while being faster. With two balls use star crimp.
Same sabots use 58cal Minie and solid base bullets.Ed
