If HM2 were to cut it, (whatever is finally decided on) and if the buy was run as a choice of either a .279/280 or .286/.287 or so, I would think that it would go a long way toward getting it cut.

As far as how heavy to make it, there seem to be a myriad of good reasons that the "Target" weights seem to run 125-130 grains, and the "Hunting" weights hover around 140-150. I have no real experience loading the .270, but don't most designs begin to hang below the neck once you begin to exceed about 150grains?

    bump for interest

my 270 is a Ruger single shot, length doesn't matter as long as it can be shoved into the rifling without pushing back into the case.

and then next 270 I buy will be a Single Shot also.

as to throats, I haven't checked them yet.

Someone get a design and I can run the molds, I am almost ready to start production of molds and would like to get a few off the ground. It would be about 3 weeks to make the molds once the cherry is recieved.

What happened to the original Loverin idea in the thread?

Nice boolit but would probably be better if you started a separate GB thread for this design.

I like the look and the weight but for me I'd loose the crimp groove and perhaps shorten the nose as it seems a bit long by taking the weight down to 150 gns.

There are a bunch of molds available between 130-150gr. There aren't any(that I know of) hollow point molds for 270, or 175-180 with a wide meplat. Both of the 270 rifles(an old pump & a almost new bolt) have long throats. The pump is limited by mag length with almost every bullet/boolit I've tried, & accuracy shows it. Getting a fat nosed boolit for that pump would be stellar. The rcbs 150 can be seated to 3.246(fits mag too) in the bolt & 3.359 in the pump, mag length fer pump only allows 3.316.

Getting a fat boolit that fills the throat with the short pump mag length would be my goal. It would allow proper seating depth, albeit shorter in the bolt guns too. Now we need a boolit designer to help us out.

I can seat this boolit at 3.144 & the gc is still in the neck.

Oops, I didnt see the loverin designation, I just put a boolit together before bed and that is what I got.
I will get on the loverin design.

I'd be interested in trying that 277-160 in my FN59 (7mm Mauser)
I have some 287405's to try right now. Maybe load em up this weekend

I'm definitely in, whether it's a Loverin or Bore rider type boolit. I have a 280468 that shoots reasonably well in a Goodsteel-built Mauser (it's a tack driver with jacketed). The 280473 and the 280412 both shoot poorly in comparison. Just had Buckshot HP a SC 280468, will try if a HP shoots any better. It's been a frustrating caliber to work with; just not ready to throw in the towel just yet.

My .270 is literally the only firearm I own that I do not cast for. If I were to find a nice huntable cast boolit design for it I'd be all over it...
