    270 (0.277 -0.28) 140 grain Loverin GC interest?

I just acquired a 270 and discovered there are very few moulds available for this caliber.

Would there be any interest in a group buy on a 140 to 150 grain mould in 270 (0.277 -0.28) and the Loverin style bullet with/without GC ?

I am thinking of something like the 311407 scaled down to 0.278" to 0.280"
or the 311405 with the diameter scaled down.

I do like the Loverin bullets. They seem to be very forgiving and compensate for a great deal

A Loverin mold in this size would also make a great bullet to paper patch up for the 708, 7X57 and other 7mm cartridges..

Great idea.. That makes the mold more versatile.
a paper patched loverin soft lead bullet with hard lube in the lube grooves under the patch.

I have the old Lyman #280468 Loverin. One I have cast 122 grains from 2:6 alloy. It's just the right length to fit a 270 Win neck.

Easy way to get it shooting is 14.0 grains of Unique for about 1875 fps.

I'm interested if it doesn't take a couple years to deliver.

.270 molds seem to get brought up once a week. Interest fades quick. This is the 3-4th time I've said, "I'm in". Preferably 150gr or more.

a scaled down 311407 (Ben's Mod sized to the SAAMI 270Win chamber) would be pretty good!

any idea what that would weigh? I'd like a 180gr, but I doubt this one will fill that.

I have a couple 280moulds but I am interested in something heavier.

    Update.
after two weeks of a WTB add on a Canadian gun forum of over 100,000 members (Canadian gunnutz) I now have two responses and a mold in the mail.

In a couple of weeks I will see how this gun shoots cast...

I am still in for a group buy on a mold

Or we just need enough people signed up for Al to run with it.

He is catching up on his back log.

I’ll add that I have the old 7mm Loverin. Lyman #287405. Weighs 150 grains with a round nose. I sized this down to .278” from an as cast of about .285”. Gas check ends up down in the case. 270 Win isn’t any barn burner with cast anyway but with this long Loverin It is the worst bullet I have. Tried some sized at .280” and they faired no better.
I’ve shot deep seated boolits in my 30-06 with no loss of accuracy.

I think Lyman had it right with there 122 grain Loverin. Could use a flat nose or hollow point for hunting varmints. Simple formula of a Loverin body the length of a 270 neck then a front band and nose. I end up with about 1,850 fps for an accuracy load in my 270.
Good load for hunting varmints at night and the load of Unique doesn’t have such a boom that you wake up every farmer for a mile around.

Accuracy in my RCBS 270-150-SP and the Lyman 280468 is similar. Can’t get one to shot any faster than the other. At 200 yards the wind blows them both around so the best group depends on how you luck out with wind.

If you look at this NOE 7mm example below you can see that Al reduces the top band diameter in his Loverin molds so as to allow for getting the rear of the bullet out of the boiler room of the case in short throated cartridges..
I haven't made a impact throat impression of my .270 so I don't have a clue as to their throat length..
But I have had good luck shooting NOE's "modified" Loverin's in both .30cal. and 8mm..

I don't need a barn burner in .270, just a mold that casts .278 or more and takes a gas check. 1850fps would be fine with a correctly designed hunting boolit. 150grs+. I can make up for velocity with weight and alloy.

I like that front band setup. Would give you a good start at centering the boolit too. One fault of sizing down the 7mm Loverin to 278 is the nose is to large for the throat. Which aggravates the length issue. My other two boolits are both sub 2 MOA out to 100 yards so the sized down 7mm has to do pretty good to keep up. Rifle is just a 1 1/2" at 100 gun with J bullets. Actually does better at short range with cast.

I would think that the NOE 286407 shortened and slimmed to .279 (No.2 alloy) and 135gr +/-5gr would be a dilly.
