    Info on old winchester powder

I was given some old winchester powder from a lady who's husband past away several years ago. It looks like shotgun powder and would make sense as I saw three sets of Mec reloaders. One pound (am at work and can't remeber) was in a metal can. It resembled a brake fluid can, white and light blue lable, 562 maybe?? Anyway the other was in a large coffee can. It seems he used to partner up and buy a keg with freinds. The powder looks good, light gray smallish flakes (looked like win 231) It has a hand written lable on it, but cant make it out.

Where can I find info on obsolete winchester powders??

Ok so I made it home. The 1 lb can is winchester 540. The 2lb can has 452. Was this a winchester powder?

452 was a Winchester powder slightly faster than 231 and pretty similar to HP38.
540 is fairly close to Herco speed wise.

You might try the manuals here:

the win 540 is HS6 and 452AA is 231 speed, there should be several hundred pages of data for pistol and shotgun

452AA is / was Winchester's fast 12ga trap powder. Somewhat like rod dot or 700x in speed.

I can absolutely confirm that W540 IS Hs-6. Lots of data for either one.

And 452 was indeed a 12-ga trap load powder similar to RedDot or 700X. You can use RedDot/700X data for less-than-maximum loads.
