    A. Uberti Winchester M1876 in .45-60 WCF

I recently aquired a M1876 "Cross Fire Trail" sadle ring carbine from Cimarron. I made my .45-60 cases from shortened .45-70 cases. My load was 11.4 grains of Unique, Remington 9 1/2 Magnum Rifle Primers and 20 each 405 grain Lee RNFP, and 20 each 350 grain RCBS RNFP cast Boolits. here are the results.

Listen! Do you hear it. The roar of cannons, the screams of the dying! Ahh! Music to my ears!

Uh, those targets are no good--they've got holes in them.

    Greetings
Now take those cases and fill them with 3F to about 1/4 inch from the top. Tap the case rim on the table lightly to settle the powder. Lube those same boolits with some BP lube. I am partial to 45% olive oil to 55% beeswax. You can lick your fingers when your done with this lube. Seat those boolits.
Reshoot those targets at whatever range it was. I can smell that char flavored smoke all the way down here. Well maybe it's the saltpeter.. I will be waiting to read how much better the groups were.
All my big bore cartrige lever flippers shoot at least as well and better with 3F. Have a 45/60 and it prefers 3F.

Well, somebody had to say it. I am starting to sound like a broken record around here telling folks to use black powder in black powder cartridges. Now you have done it so I don't have to.

11.4 grains of Unique, 405 grain Lee .458 RNFP. Unfornately, the rifle was fired in the Indoor Range I work at ant the range was 25 yards. As soon as I can get up to the 100 yard range I will try that same bullet with a compressed charge of 2Fg Goex as well as my 350 Grain RCBS RNFP. My Chaparrel shot BP bullets with Black Powder far better than with smokeless when loaded with BP compatable Lube.
