    IMR PB Powder Opinion

I'm a Noob to reloading and I picked a bad time to get into it. As you all know powder is hard to come by but my local store has IMR PB Powder in stock. What's your opinion on IMR powder? I'm reloading 40 S&W 150 grain Boolits for target shooting during IDPA matches

Excellent powder formula! Should find a load easily. If no immediate data, use GreenDot data. ... felix

I have found this powder burn rate chart one of the more useful I have seen. It can help you "place" PB powder on the comparative list, both vertically (fast/slow), and horizontally (for comparison of other powders).

I always thought and figured that since the load data for PB was similar to Unique and Universal that this is where I'd rate the powder.. I come at this from the point of view of a shotgun reloader.. PB is one of those mid range powders that allows you to load light (low pressure) target loads and then allow you to gain some velocity with the same payload. Like Unique and Universal, it has loads from 24 gram (near 7/8 oz) up to 1 1/4 oz in the 12 ga that allows target (1150 fps) to mid range (1275-1330 fps) velocities.

It also has load data on the Hodgdon site for 16, 20, and 28.

It is a sleeper powder though, I don't know many people besides me that have used it..

700X is more like BullsEye in speed until proven otherwise. PB is faster than Unique in almost all cases. ... felix

pb is a bit faster than unique. [closer to green dot]
it is super close to the powder federal uses in it's trap loads [if not the one]
wouldn't hurt my feelings if it was all i could find.
the 700-x is close to red dot.
