Angry Help with K98 front sight

Took the K98 out to the rangs yesterday for the first time and found that at 25, 50 and 100 yards It's shooting high with the rear sight all the way down. Any help on how to correct this? Perhaps an easy way to raise the front sight or maybe buy something after market? Thanx in advance guys, Glenn

Brownells sells a front sight blank for the 98 Mauser. It's plenty high so you can file it down to the height you need. Part number is #078 -050-000, Mauser Front Sight Blank, $14.97. I've used them on a couple of my Mausers.

The Brownell's sight is really made for the Swedish Mausers: it has the slab-sided flat top profile, not the barleycorn profile of most other Mausers. The K98k has one of the lowest front sights in all of Mauserdom. A front sight from nearly any other Mauser rifle will be somewhat higher and will fit the dovetail of the K98k They never changed the dovetail from the M1871 through the last 98-types, except for the "special" types with "ears". The Yugo 24/47 has one of the highest "issue" front sight blades, and you can usually find the blades in pretty good condition, not battered to hell like a lot of others.

YOU CAN ALSO build up the front sight.
i have jb welded on a pc of aluminum , filed, trimed, blacken'd, brazed or welded to the the blade.

the swede tall front sight will fit the 98 wiht a bit of fitting to the base of the dovetail.

Thanks for your replys. While looking for a front sight from another type of mauser I found that Tennesee Gun Parts sells a replacment sight for the K98. It's called the Tall Sight. It is identical to the K98 front sight only it measures .330 and you can file it down. Cost is $14.99 including shipping

Dress the top of the front sight flat and silver solder a 1/16" brass rod to the top and presto, you have a bead front sight that is just about on with modern ammo.
