Just got done with a Model 12 butt stock. I am now a believer in LinSpeed oil. I have always used tung oil and Truoil on my stocks in the past and have been pretty well satisfied. Well, I had ths water damaged Model 12 stock come in. The heel had set in water so long it was bleached out for about 1 1/2" up the toe. Once I got it stripped and sanded down, the rest of the stock had a lot of figure. Reached for the TRuoil and there was not enough to do a complete stock. Sitting next to it was a jar of LinSpeed that I had ordered from Brownells a couple of years ago. I thought what the hell, I can always strip it down again. Started in per directions and something became immediately clear. This WAS the finish used on old Super Grade stocks!! Had that same color and glow. After 10 coats, cutting to wood every 3rd coat, I had a beautiful piece of walnut!! Too bad about the bleached toe. Just thought I would share this. If you want any pictures, PM me with your email. I don't know how to get them up on here, sorry.
