little off topic - Brass catcher

    Hi all,

I was just curious to know what everyone is using for a brass catcher. I have a swiss 6.5x55 mauser semi auto that launches brass into a different zip code every time you pull the trigger.

And say goodbuy to any brass out of my 32 auto PPK.

So any pictures would be greatly appriciated.

    Thx

Take a look at these, most of my Bulleye buddies use these. They are a bit pricy but can be set up to use for rifle or pistol.
I have one that has been midified severial times and I made it out if copper tubing. That was about 10 years ago before copper went sky high.

I've made one that C-clamps to the bench or can also simply stand up. It's made out of small PVC and some random netting I have laying around. I'll try to see if I can find some pictures.

I made one with a fish net, a piece of 2X4, a carrage bolt & wing nut and a cheap clamp from Harbor Freight.

I took an old 24" fishing net frame ( rectangular one not round ) and attached a netted laundry bag on it. Kept the collapsible handle so I could adjust it up and down as needed, attached handle to a pc of 1 x 8 decking board with a bolt in the end of handle. I actually pushed a pc of round dowel rod up the inside of the net handle and drilled it with a furniture nut on the end. The furniture nut allows me to either use a bolt to attach to decking board or a screw attachment from a camera tripod that also allows me to put it on a tripod for use when standing with the AR . The decking board allows me to use it on the bench with semi autos.

The base is a 2X6x15. The net is a laundry net from Wal-mart. ( about $3.00 IIRC)
PVC is 3/4". The top "T" piece is not Glued so that it can be swung out for a better opening of the net. The opening on mine is 14X9"
The upright PVC is fit over a wooden dowel that is of the size to fit in 3/4" PVC. The wooden dowel is drilled so that the height can be adjusted. The wooden dowel is glued into a hole drilled into the 2X6 board.

I hate pictures on their sides. I will add that one of the pictures has the "t" extended.Click image for larger version.

For my AR with a scope just slide an old t-shirt over the rifle and it will dump at your feet. Iron sites require a different approach. Any tube type rag will work. Just sew an old dish rag into a tube that works too.

Shot thousands of rounds on ranges and at prairie dogs this way. First day the guy next to you will look at you funny, the next day he will have a fancy shell catcher too.

Fits in your pocket and if you forget it at home you can improvise pretty easy.

On one particularly unfortunite evening, I held a metal trash can up to the side of my pistol in order to catch the brass. It didn't work out so well....

Imagine an "A" frame or puptent shape made of pvc tubing....not large, just enough to sit on the bench (or ground) and cover the shooter. Now fasten some netting to the frame. Done. Works very well with my SKS, M1 carbine, SVT40, etc.

I stick two 3ft rods in the ground and fasten it to the top to make an L shape out of the tarp and that makes a wall to stop the brass. I shoot prone and my gun throws to the side.

I have to make something for standing and bench shooting though. I might just buy a screen gazebo style tent and set my bench up inside of it since I have a private range. Then I can just shoot out the doorway opening and all my brass will be on the tarp inside.

I've had my eyes and ears out for quite some time for a good used truckers tarp to lay on the ground. It would be large enough for any brass to land on and it would then be easy enough to pick up with a rolling cage.

    The wives favorite fabric store.
Different colors and hole sizes too.

    1/2" PVC and netting.
