    358 rifle bullet swage dies

Made a very nice 6s ogive 358 rifle caliber die set. Check out the reuslts!

My 300 grain 358 bullet on the left reformed from the 300 grain .338 Sierra MK bullet on tht right. WIth how good these bullets look they got me thinking about a long range 358RUM!

    Good shooting and Swage On!

Nice, my hunting rifle is a 700 classic 35 whelen. Remington in their unfathomable wisdom used a 1 in 16 twist. That may not be enough with a 300 grain bullet. For the past several years my whelen has only fired cast, gas checked RCBS flat points at 1900 fps and round nose plain base 200s at 1200 fps.
Those flat points are all that's needed to make whitetails lay down and give up. The 200s are fun gopher getters.
A long range 35 caliber rifle for me would require an entire build. More weight, faster twist, longer, rigid stock, big honken scope.
    To lazy to chase arrows.

Just about got this customer's set of dies out the door. Customer wants to make 160-180 grain .357 bullets from scrap 223 brass. This is what I came up with. This die has a .125 meplat rather then the .095 of the one above.

    So

Step 1) I took some scrap 223 blanks held with the shell holder in the press and with my sizing die I sized down the top half of the case to .350

Step 2) trim the neck off the case

Step 3) cut the case in half at necessary length for given weight of bullet to be made from top cut off shoulder portion of case

Step 4) Clean the cut offs. Lead tip bullets made from top half of 223 brass doesn't necessarily need to be annealed

Step 5) seat lead core and roll over end of case forming base of bullet

    Step 6) form bullet

These bullets from the top of the case came out at 165 grains. Then you can use the bottom half of the 223 case for another .357 bullet as pictured. Bullets on the right are commercial 35 cal jackets. The commercial jacket weighted in at 20 grains, the top cut off portion of the 223 case was 25 grains. I expect the brass jacket top formed bullet will shoot very well. I have shot the same concept threw my 44 with great accuracy.

Very little exposed lead at base and was simple to form without additional dies. This is the same method I would use to make 9mm bullets if I had an unlimited supply of scrap 223 brass.

Sized top half of brass to .350 in my sizing die.
