    45 cal (.451)

Here is the die set you all have been waiting for. Make perfect 225 grain .451 bullets from scrap 40 S&W brass.

I have perfected an improved custom 45 cal die to offfer you all that offers a smaller meplat with a more rounded nose profile to aid in feeding in semi auto.

My new bullet is pictured on left and the older CH-4d version is on right.

These dies have been very popular in the past and I see a great many shooters that will benifit from these great dies in the near future.

    Dies are availble for order.

To make the 45s pictured above one needs my universal die with expanding mandrel to take 40S&W brass up to 45cal and my BTX multi caliber notch die to make the perfect XTP bullets.

I see no reason why a 180 grain bullet would not be possible. Just got to trim the brass a bit more then probably use a 120 grain .356 cast bullet for the core should get you right there.

You guys will find out that anything is possible when you make your own.

I'll be happy to set you all up with anything you need.

Since the base area of a 45 made from a 40 does not balloon to the full .400 diameter, I found that trying to make the lighter bullets leaves precious little contact between the bullet and the case. It was way too easy to get bullet setback with that little interference. Word of caution for light bullet weights using this system.

158 grain 9mm cast bullet cores work perfect to make 225 grain 45 cal bullets from 40 S&W brass.

Did that require any trimming of the 40S&W brass?

Once you have expanded the 40 case with the mandrel, could you use a 40 cal bullet for the core? I have a 170 gr 40 mold. Could that be used or would it be too large in dia?

Yes! the 40 cal cast boolit would work just fine for a 45 cal core. The typical 40 S&W case weighs about 70 grains IIRC, a 170 grain mold when cast with pure lead would give you about a 250 grain bullet. I know when we make our 44s with 40 S&W and the 175 grain 40 cal mold they come out about 255 grains with pure lead cores. You must be shooting a revolver? 45 colt? For the 45ACP shooters I recommend trimming the 40 S&W brass to .750 and using a 158 grain .358 cast boolit core to make 220 grain bullets, but when you have your own set of dies any bullet weight is possible!

    BT

p.s. I am almost done with your 9mm dies and they are ..... well.... awesome! Should ship early this week. I'll though in a few bullet samples in various calibers for you.

The only thing better than BT Sniper swaging dies for swaging is Chuckbuster's custom chop saw for trimming brass. I'm not sure is Chuckbuster is still making them but you can send him a PM and find out.

I shoot both a 45 ACP (that's what the Base Guards I sent you are for) and 45 Colt revolver AND lever rifle. I would like a little heaver bullet for the Colt. Oh, you should have the BGs by Tuesday or Wed. let me know what you think.
