    Handgun Boolit Alloy ?

    I'm new at this here boolit casting.
    I have smelted down a bunch of the good old timey clip on wheel weights & got me some nice clean ingots (several hundred lbs)
    I also have some dead soft lead (several hundred lbs)
    Plus I have a few lbs of pewter.

    I want to make plinking boolits for 38/357 , 41 & 44 mag , 45 , etc.

    Velocities of my loads will top out in the 1000-1100 fps range.

    Bearing in mind that the WW metal will be the hardest to replace ;

    What would be a good alloy that I can make out of the material that I have on hand ?

    Thanks

    Mike

    Hello,
    While I'm just starting out and only have done a few casting sessions Your request is similar to what I was looking for also. But I know you will get lots of help from the folks here.

    If You download the BHN hardness calculator on this forum Thread at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...BHN+calculator You can come up with you own mixes.
    I wanted light target loads with my 357 mag also & I picked a mix that gave me a BHN of 12/13 however I still think the more knowledgeable people here would even go softer. So I am going to try for BHN 10. I was shooting Commercaial cast @ BHN 18 and they were way too hard for light loads (Under 1000 fps)
    Hope this helps
