ID:	54643Hi, I have been reading a lot about casting thanks to this "Boolit" site. Started casting and decited (at the last minute) to hunt this year with a 240gr Kieth style in 44mag on top of 20.0 grs of 2400 out of a Super Blackhawk w/ iron sights. Being happy with the load and the guy holding the groups, out to the PA woods we went. Lady luck gave me a chance and a nice doe harvest was made. I'm on a "high" as its the first time with iron sights, and the first time with cast boolits I made.

Ted, welcome to the site. You are right in that this is a great site and so much info here that it has to be absorbed little by little. You did real good for your first cast and your use of open sights. I have never hunted with a short gun. I can see though that I am going to have to give it a try. Looks fun. Nice first post.

That's a fine intro. Big fat Betty doe, you make the smokin' barbi get hot. That SBH is still just a good shooter.

    Good job.
I am going into extended deer season starting this weekend. Our old Muzzle Loader Season is now Alternative Weapons Season. I will have the Super RedHawk back in the woods with my home rolled 480 Ruger ammo loaded in it. I had a nice buck come by my Ladder Stand about 5 or 6 times during Firearms Season, always just out of my Comfort Zone. I am hoping he will slip up this round.

Welcome and great job. I managed to convert my cousin over to cast boolits this year in his RedHawk. He took a nice doe like you did and was impressed with the dead in it's tracks action of the cast boolit. He had been hooked on those XTP bullets for years and I told him that a cast boolit would do better. He found when he tried cast in his gun it shot better than the jacketed did, then when he smacked a doe at 75 yards and he didn't have to track her he was impressed.

Once again congratulations on your cast success. Take it from someone who has been using cast for over 35 years. You will have just as much success in your rifle cartridges as you did with your handgun, when you start using cast in them to hunt with.

    Best wishes,

    Joe

Welcome to the site, and I'd call this a GREAT START.
I don't paint bullets. I like Black Rifle Coffee. Sacred cows are always fair game. California is to the United States what Syria is to Russia and North Korea is to China/South Korea/Japan--a Hermit Kingdom detached from the real world and led by delusional maniacs, an economic and social basket case sustained by "foreign" aid so as to not lose military bases.

Well done! I also shoot the 7.5in. SBH with the 429-421 W/20gr. 2400. It is an accurate load.
You can miss fast & you can miss a lot, but only hits count.

Thanks for all the congrats and warm welcome. Most of the casting equipt. came from a man I never met (wifes uncle). I used his small ammo pouch on this hunt and somehow felt he was an on looker.

An old Ideal 429-421,,, that would be it. And the load to a "T". Now I just have to mold some more as I have loaded or shot them all up.
