    Lyman "Kake Kutters"

Does Lyman (or anyone) still make the push through aluminum gizmo for removing pan lubed bullets from the pan ?

I have several and they work great, but seem to have vanished from any manufacturer or auction websites.

    Thanks.

I got this response from these guys in response to my email today.

    Jeff,

We do still produce the tool and the cutters that are listed. The website is still active for purchasing the Waxmeister. If you have any other questions or need more information, let me know and I'll do what I can to help out. Thanks!

Trapaddict: what email contact info did you use, I have one of the waxmeister tools but they don't offer one for .401 boolits. Wanted to find out what it would take to get one .404 or so.

I haven't pan lubed for decades , but recently bought a couple new molds and wanted to try R5R's Simple Lube on a few. Problem was I didn't want to empty out the fresh-squoze stick of Felix lube from the LAM. So I decided to try my hand at the pan again.
Problem was, I had no kake-cutters of the appropriate size. So I stabbed a 7/16" drill bit through the head of a fired, Rooskie 7.62x54R steel case, chamfered the case mouth in and out, and, Viola! (that's a big city in North Idaho, or a small, purplish flower, one or t'other) Instant feed-through kake-cutter for .312s. Did something similar with a .223 case (smaller bit, of course) and punched out some .225s. Big enough to get a grip on, works good enough, cost me a bit of time and the effort to bend over and pick the cases up off the desert floor.
Still haven't decided if I'm cheap enough to reload once-fired primers yet...

I use aluminum or brass tubing and a dowel topped with a spent case. Use the case mouth tool to chamfer the id for cutting.

This is a picture of the steel ones made by Buckshot. They are priced well and as you can see are of a very easy to use size. These will be here for many years after I'm gone. The Lee cutter is for comparison

What ever happened to just drilling the base out of a cartridge case and installing a handle?

Well, for one thing if you look at my picture and feel that your case is of the same size, shape, and made of steel and that the design allows you to keep pushing out bullets in a continious motion without stopping. The bullets come out the top with no extra lube on the exterior. Mine will not bend or become clogged with lube, they have knurlining and case coloring and are of the correct size so that the bullet is removed from the lube with no mess or excess lube that ends up all over the case at seating.
To each his own as they say. Being that life is so short I find it better to have my path as smooth as possible. The cutters made by Buckshot are one of those items that do that for me. Take Care David

I thought a viola was a stringed musical instrument, a little larger than a violin but smaller than a cello.

Yeah, but in this part of Idaho, we call all them things a fiddle.
