Do gas checks clean lead out of a barrel?

If I suspect the barrel of my 45 act has been leaded up, will shooting some gas checked bullets remove the leading? 8mmFan

Not sure if gas checks will do it, but some bore solvent and some copper scrubbing mesh on a cleaning jag will do the trick.

Gas checks bullets will still lead somewhat. A cylinder, or mag of hard ball will definitely clean the bore though. tj

Works for me every time.Secret is lots of lube and low velocity like i said.I have intentionally ldeaded bores with undersized bullets with no lube to test it out.Hardball works as well as you state.

Thanks, Guys! I have some old hardball I can run through it, too. But thanks for all the info on the gas checks. 8mmFan

Many guys put gas checks on their cast auto pistol reloads for that reason, they say it keeps the barrel clean. 10mm and .41 PB gas checks have been fairly popular for such use.

FMJ's. Low velocity is in conjunction with gas checked cast boolets. Minimum starting loads.

If you are leading-up, you might take another look at your loads. The only time that I have seen leading is on a friends firearm, and he was "pushing it". And before anyone accuses me of being a beginner with no knowledge or experience (as some members unfortunately seem prone to do when they disagree with you) , I am 80, and started loading (shot shells) at the age of 7

undersized boolits will "spary" lead all thru the bore from the hot gasses melting the lead as it goes past. it took me a while to figure this out even with all these guys here help. they do not need to be loaded hot in order to do it. even a mild load with undersized boolits will do it. if you have any doubts, try shooting some .001 or .002" undersized boolits thru with mild or medium loads.
