canuck, that should work. I used a tin can exactly the same way for years, not daring to use one of SWMBO's pans. If you get the GC hot enough to see the coating turn black, then cool slowly, they are soft enough to work. To do away with the black flakes, follow the sticky on this page, the toilet paper uses up the oxygen so there is no black dust. I just leave the pipe in the fireplace in winter and the barby in summer, then come back the next morning when it is cool.

can I take the pipe and put it in the oven at 450 or so at the same time I am heat threating my cast bullets I usualy leave them for a hour....
