I was given a 4lb can of 800x when powder was hard to get. Id like to ladder up some 30-30 loads. I have a lee 170 mold waiting in the wings. Does anyone have a start load to share?
im looking in a couple manuals as we speak, but i always like to see what others have tried out.

I have used 800x in 32 Win. Spl. with 321427 weighing 143 gr. I treated it like Herco. They are very close on the burn rate chart. I started with 9.0 grains and up to 11.5 grains. Best group was with 11.5 grains at 50 yards with this combo. Hope this helps.

Funny that this thread should come back up 4 years later.

I do not remember shooting it up, so I wonder what I did with that 800X?

Remember what I said, I load 10B101 so I know what difficult metering is all about .. .
Without the long drop tube it is even difficult to get in the case.

This is hilarious! I have a pound and a half but just don't use it because of the metering.

I'm guessing you felt it truly was "gifted", so sent it off to college for four years and it returned sharper/faster and now resides in your powder cabinet as 700X. Being it is now 700X you don't recognize it, mystery solved.

I use 800-X in my .45 ACP loads based on Ken Waters Pet Loads Article. I use 7.0 grains with bullets weighing 185 up to 230 grains. In my 1945 era Colt 1911A1 best accuracy has been with 200 grain lead bullets (cast) at a respectable 935 fps. Everyone is correct about it's poor metering but since I'm not shooting any competition any more it means little to this old guy!

Love a resurrected old thread. I've used it in 357 magnum for the rifle. I know a couple of guys who use it for 10mm, 7.62x39, 30carbine, and 44 mag. I have heard of others using it for 300 blackout.

This. Lyman 454-424 over 10 grains of 800X was a warmish load, but the best shooting one in my New Model Blackhawk. Speer listed some hotter loads in their Ruger only section back in the day. I still have the mold, though I sold that gun years ago.
